We used OFB for our son's birthday. The cupcakes were SOOOOOO good, I'll start with that! Delicious. The lady I ordered from over the phone was a little rude, so that's why I give them four stars. But they have a cute little store, a nice setup. I was holding my newborn and the cashier offered to help carry the cupcakes to the car for me. And the tax free service thing is pretty nice! Overall I'd probably order again... View all feedback.
What Jordan Parks doesn't like about Old Fashion Bakery Of Janesville:
This would be a 3-star if it were a grocery store donut, but given that it’s a bakery, a 2-star is appropriate. Had a old fashioned and a maple bar, and both were of inferior quality. The dough had little flavor, icing was sparse and bland, and the overall consistency was neither light and airy or dense and rich, but rather stale. I'm don't live in Janesville, but was looking for a bakery that had Christmas cookies ,I was not disappointed there cookies are delicious!
I've been here maybe 6 times, the donuts are good however, the service isn't really good.
QUICK REAS: 4*, not 5* because the donuts are good, just not earth shattering (true 5* . I'm new to the area and just started working at the hospital in Janesville and after a brutal 24h call shift I needed AM donuts. I'm NOT a huge fan of grocery store donuts or chains because I'd rather support small businesses, so a Yelp search led me to OFB. Let's get right into it: these donuts are OK. They're not eye-watering but they were good, and better than any grocery chain I've ever had. Better than the DD??... I think so, because they TASTED homemade! By that I mean the dough was a bit too heavy for some, the eclairs were on the smaller side and the sour cream old fashioned was a bit blah.... However! I had read the other reviews (pre C19 and they were way off. Here's what I found, 9/4/2022: 1 place was super clean, super inviting and well stocked (granted, I was at the door 5min after opening so no idea what it looks like later in the day... 2 the young woman behind the counter was well groomed and really friendly. 3 the other patron in the store behind me had a lovely special-needs (son... grandson..? and the counter girl was very friendly to him 4 the price was fine for what I got. Like $1/donut.... In today's dollars worth it IMO. 5 The hours on the app matched the hours on the store (a prev review complained about this so I wanted to update to set the record straight . 6 the maple cinnamon roll was delish!!! Cons? 1 the cake donuts are a bit heavy... dense. Maybe add some milk powder to you mix, it lightens doughs more than you'd think. 2 the eclairs are more like lady fingers. Maybe beef them up a bit?? Otherwise, I'm already planning on coming back to get donuts for myself and the staff during my next 24h shift (maybe a loyalty card or something for a free dozen after 10?? . I like supporting local. I would recommend to ANYONE in the area to try this place before a chain. It's DEF worth the risk.
Limited selection and questionable quality. These doughnuts aren't fresh. I was the first customer on a Sunday and the four doughnuts I purchased were stale. Its a real shame when your local bakery can't compete with the Quik Trip store down the road. C'mon guys you can do better than this.
