Jay's Southern Cafe - Jacumba

The restaurant is currently closed due to Covid and is undergoing a transformation. It used to be a nice spa, motel, and dining spot. They assure us that it will be fantastic once it reopens. However, it’s located very close to the wall.

If you're in search of delicious comfort food, this place is definitely worth a visit! I tried the special meat pot of the day, along with potato salad and beans as my sides. The potato salad was fantastic, especially with the extra dressing, and the beans and meat were equally satisfying. It's a charming spot that's well worth the detour for their homemade goodness!

For a small-town café, the food and service exceeded my expectations. I tried the sausage and pork ribs, which were quite tasty. While the rib was a bit dry, the sauce was fantastic! They had run out of burgers, but the staff was quick to ensure I got what I needed. The customer service was outstanding. It’s a great spot to stop for a meal when you're in the area!

Some years later, I realized that I accidentally gave them 4 stars instead of 5. I'm sorry. Best customer service in Southern California.

I felt like I traveled down south when I walked into this restaurant. Very nice place in the middle of nowhere, at least it felt like that. This place was recommended to us by the Alien mechanic LOL! The fish and chips was excellent! I believe they're locally caught from Lake Morena. It's a family owned business and his boys were there in a little area watching TV. It was how it was done back then!! And kudos to the chef for running a business and talking care of the family at the same time! I really loved seeing that. If you're in the area, please try him out!
