I had the small chicken platter for lunch, which was $12. I chose collard greens and black-eyed peas (the special side veggie of the day) as my sides. The platter came with two thighs and a leg, all perfectly smoked—moist, tender, and absolutely delicious. The greens and peas were exceptional as well. During my visit from Indianapolis, I checked out this place because of its great reviews. I think it might be better to dine in rather than order takeout. The food that was delivered wasn’t impressive at all. The mac and cheese was bland, and the corn nuggets were underwhelming too. I swear I had more flavor when I lost my sense of taste! Food and service was really good. So good when I saw banana pudding on the menu I was sure it would be incredible! Well to my surprise it was not...I was disappointed to see at first glance that it was not homemade at all. It was instant pudding withvanilla wafers cookies layered on top. No banana slices at all. It was awful. I would urge the restaurant to produce a realversion of banana pudding. Outside of that the food and service was pretty solid.
I made an order over the phone this evening. I ordered 2 fries 2 10 wings 1 with Buffalo sauce the other with sweet tangy as well as 6 ribs with fried squash. I didn?t get no forks napkins no bbq sauces. They put both orders of fries in one box butshould have been in 2 boxes then was going to charge me another fry because I wanted it in their boxes because it?s going to 2different people then turned around gave me a box for me to put it in. I spent over $70 to not enjoy it. Ribs was very verydry squash was double fried do made it very dry chewy. Very disappointed I.
Visiting from Indianapolis, it had great reviews. Maybe the food is better inside. Had it delivered and it?s nothing to rave about. Bland Mac and cheese, corn, and corn nuggets. I had more flavor when I lost my taste and smell to covid. Pork was okay.Ribs were full of fat and far from tender. Banana pudding was made different than what I?m used to. Really just tasted likevanilla pudding was scooped into a container with cut up bananas on the bottom and one vanilla wafer on top. Wasn?t my cup oftea.
Elected to try their barbeque turkey salad vs my usual pork based ones elsewhere. It was good esp with the use of very green romaine lettuce vs iceberg that is used at other bonos. The salad was plentiful and we had a great waitress who was attentive toour needs. Place was small but cozy. Will return.
I travel all over the United States and leave a lot of reviews on barbecue joints. I would rank this one the best in Jacksonville if not in the state of Florida. When you come here enjoy the rich baked beans, the brisket and even the turkey isawesome! Tell owners Shawnda and Lou Hank said hello.
