We ordered a platter of brisket, a pork... read more The food and service were excellent! This was our first experience with Mississippi Barbecue, and we were not let down. We ordered a platter of brisket, a pork plate, brisket nachos, and a kids' rib plate. For sides, we chose onion rings, potato salad, coleslaw, and baked beans. And of course, we had to have sweet tea. Everything was served hot and tasted incredibly fresh, with generous portion sizes. The Comeback Sauce on the side was by far the best we’ve ever tried. The onion rings were perfectly hot and crispy, while the baked beans had a delightful sweetness with a hint of tang. The coleslaw was fresh and slightly sweet, and the potato salad was very good too. The dry-rub ribs were outstanding—smoky, tender, and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spices; they really didn’t need any sauce. The brisket was chopped/shredded, which was different from what we’re used to, but it was tender and had a lovely smoke ring without being overly fatty. I did need to add a bit of salt for an extra flavor boost, but I prefer it this way. The pork was cut into large chunks and was served in a generous portion. I added a little salt to it as well, just like I did with the brisket. It had great flavor and texture, and it wasn’t overcooked like some places tend to do. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive. Thank you for making our visit so enjoyable! We will definitely return the next time we are in Jackson.

Not a franchised... read more I've been eating at Hickory Pit for more than 20 years, eating there every couple of weeks. I have always enjoyed their food and unique taste. Not a franchised BBQ joint. Today I purchased two pulled chicken salads. The salads were not fresh tasting and very bland. I had purchased one for a first time person. They were not impressed at all. The absurd thing is that each salad cost just under seventeen dollars. I understand we are in the COVID Enviroment but I can still do fine dining for a quality salad elsewhere. Unfortunately, I was and am very disappointed.
