What User dislikes about Monks On The Commons:
eating is easy to order and is too expensive. it was $16 for a martini that was quite short. the restaurant is literally not an ambiente to speak. it was also very cold most people in the restaurant to carry their moms (I expect it to be a function of the restaurant is part of the very large open hotel lobby room. the service was very attentive, but they put a mandatory 20% satisfaction on the check. with all other r... Food was really good. We had Caesar salad, lamb chops and pasta. All well done and delicious. Our server was very personable and attentive. Cocktails were yum.
Crab cakes salty, prices high for graduation . $135 for a bottle of champagne. V disappointing
The food was delicious. However, the service was lacking. I noticed a manager talking to another table that was going to leave without getting their food because they had waited so long with a hungry toddler. My husband and I ordered an appetizer that arrived at our table approximately 50 minutes after we were seated. Our dinner came to the table a couple of minutes after, so, we all of a sudden we had everything all at once. I ordered a drink refill when our dinner arrived and still hadn’t received it 30 minutes later. It came after we paid the bill. Our waiter apologized saying that they were terribly busy and they were. We were disappointed in our experience.
Cocktails were excellent. Service was attentive and pleasant. Food came out at a nice warm temp but tended to be salty which obscured any other seasoning.
My husband, I and our daughter enjoyed dinner here in a Friday night. The food was very good and service was friendly and efficient. We’d definitely go there again.

First off, they only serve Pepsi products instead of Coca-Cola; it's surprising that they don't have at least a case of Coca-Cola cans available. At those prices, it's unreasonable to only offer fountain drinks. Additionally, they seem to be on a mission to save the planet with their cardboard straws, but I ended up ordering iced tea, which was so watered down that it felt more like water with a single drop of tea mixed in. I also ordered their $18 hamburger, which was a mistake. It came with a small patty on a plain, oily bun, a bit of generic mayonnaise, and hardly any toppings—just a slice of tomato, one raw onion ring, and a piece of iceberg lettuce. I could understand this level of effort at a sports event, but this is a sit-down restaurant in a hotel, and the prices suggest a much higher standard. The fries were forgettable as well. While the breakfasts were somewhat better, they still didn’t meet expectations given the prices. On the bright side, the breakfast service was excellent compared to the dinner service. Ultimately, I came away feeling that this place functions more as a bar than a proper restaurant.
What a fantastic spot for delicious food! Every dish my family ordered was incredible and thoroughly enjoyed. The service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was just right. I would definitely give it a 10/10 and look forward to returning!
Great place for food and drink, outstanding food, service ,clean and relaxing , bar tenders are attentive , friendly and will converse with you ,awesome place to stop
My wife Sarah and I visited this establishment on our first night in town.
Drinks are good. Service was solid. Food is AWFUL for the price. $30 for Gnocci with Short Rib Ragu , which looks like Gnocci in a can of Campbells canned stew. $27 for shrimp and tortellini pesto, which they confirmed was from a jar/can after asking about nuts in the pesto. Fries were clearly frozen and soggy as well. A shame because the hotel it 's attached to is very nice.

The gourmet burger and ribeye steak were exceptional. The service was highly professional, and the ambiance was delightful. I will definitely be returning.
The service was lovely, but the drinks were hit or miss—some mediocre, others quite poor, depending on your choice. Unfortunately, the food was incredibly disappointing; it was just bad. The salads were especially unappetizing. You're merely a stone's throw away from countless places that offer delicious meals. Save your money and skip this underwhelming hotel restaurant, even if it does have a prime location on the Commons.
I would give this place less stars if I could. If the weather wasn’t so nice tonight this would’ve been complaint after complaint. The food is terrible. Don’t get anything with pasta. Don’t get the anti flatbread. The server was upset becausemy date didn’t like one of the drinks. This should never elicit an emotional reaction. We pay for the experience. Please dobetter!
I ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca served over Linguine with mushroom sauce, and it was absolutely divine. My husband enjoyed the salmon, and our daughter had a large dinner salad topped with strawberries, both of which were superb. Everything was so perfect that we decided to return for dinner the second night, despite needing the heaters turned on for comfort. Monks is truly a hidden gem, as it doesn’t seem to get the advertising it deserves. We cannot recommend it highly enough, even with so many excellent dining options in Ithaca.
