I was excited to try this restaurant! I made a reservation and arrived early. It definitely has a vibrant atmosphere. The music is enjoyable, but a bit too loud, making it difficult to have a conversation with my friend. While it wasn't the best Mexican food I've ever had, I did enjoy my tacos and margarita! What User doesn't like about El 42 Cantina:
I really wanted to like the food here, because I love supporting local businesses, but the queen I had was terrible. It tasted like two store tortillas bought with American cheese melted in the middle. It was practically impossible. The tacos my fiancée got were good and they are late opened what was convenient, but the meal we got was massively overpriced $40 for two people) and for half of this meal really terrible... Food is very tasty. Bar staff were very friendly! Drinks are good, especially the sangria and margaritas. The guac is really good too! Burrito was delicious. Can be a bit hard to hear in there, noise can get pretty loud.
Great food and service. Good people running and serving in this place. Drinks need more effort. Can’t serve an old fashioned without a nice big ice cube in the appropriate glassware. Same for margaritas. Try a little harder on presentation.
The food is fantastic. I got the Carne Asada. The quality of the meat is far beyond most Mexican establishments I have dined at. The guacamole was as fresh as could be too. The flavor of the meat was superb. The service was great too. I will definitely be back often when I come through this area

Very good Mexican food in downtown Issaquah. The inside dining option is very small, but they are doing a great job with added outdoor space
