We went in on the off chance looking for a pint and some food. Good atmosphere, a reasonable selection of ales including one named after the writer himself and cheerful staff. Staff suggested the chicken leek and tarragon pie. I went for that and my partner had the burger. Best pub grub we've had in a while. Looking forward to my next visit View all feedback.
What otoogood doesn't like about Charles Lamb Pub:
Wow, tasteless cloudy beer combined with having to clear my own table and staff who didn’t give two hoots, how poor can service be? I even returned my pint, still 3/4 full to the bar and nobody cared as to why? Heaven forbid when you’re busy. Sorry I’m not a regular, maybe that is why? I do however live in Islington. Had lunch here with a good mate. Good selection of beers and one cider. Aspalls so all good. Felt like a good pub to spend time drinking. Sporting Six Nations paraphernalia, so maybe a good spot for rugby watching if a bit cozy. Friendly, chatty bar staff. Food available but not sampled
I’ve just had the best bangers and mash in a pub ever. Succulent Cumberland sausages and proper mash, washed down with excellent real ale. A proper London pub.
Our wonderful chef, Greg, who rang Gregory's kitchen is leaving the Charles Lamb today. Greg was the heart of this community pub and gave us so much more than wonderful meals, Greg gave the pub is soul. My husband and I are so very sorry that Greg is leaving. Please do come today and give Greg the send off that he deserves. We know Greg will do very well in his next venture that will come up. Greg is such a talented chef and we have so loved having Greg at the pub. Greg's leaving will be such a loss and we so wish he would stay. Greg we have so loved having you with us and tons of love and best wishes. Do take the time today to pop in, have one last meal with our star chef and wish Greg the very best which he whole heartedly deserves. Thank you Greg so much for your time at The Chatles Lamb.
Called into the Charles Lamb on a saturday lunchtime, not busy. We had Dark Star Hophead and Hook Norton Hooky, both were well kept and fresh. Prices not bad for this rather well heeled part of Islington.
I had always known the Charles Lamb as a really cosy pub with great food. The website still says it serves lunch and dinner every day. I had friends over from abroad so thought it a good idea to introduce them to some tasty British pub fare. But when I phoned to book a table, I was made aware that ‘Tuesday was pizza night’ . I was disappointed but then I know a few pubs who offer pizzas which are delicious. This turned out to be a joke: our pizzas came out one by one (which screams microwave) and the poor guy in charge had to make our pizzas and serve at the bar at the same time. The pizzas came on wooden chopping boards with napkins for plates. There was only a choice of 3 toppings. They weren’t inedible but certainly not worth 9 quid! We were all left scratching our heads as to what had happened to this once charming pub with a real flair for food. I shall need to investigate. Meanwhile this pub will not feature on my list of places to go any more. Who’s taken it over? Are they running it to the ground? What’s happened to the kitchen?
