Bun Cha - Islington
Bun Cha
Description
Nestled in an unassuming corner, this Vietnamese café offers a mix of experiences that have left a varied impression on diners. While some revel in the charm of the decor and the quality of dishes like bun cha and Banh Mi, others criticize the service, noting instances of indifference from staff and a lack of essential condiments. The value for money is highlighted, as is the speed of service, yet disappointment arises for those seeking authenticity. Overall, the café presents a potential gem for the adventurous or those seeking a quick meal, although some may find better options elsewhere.

I brought two colleagues from Asia to this restaurant for lunch. The service was very friendly and accommodating, and the food was excellent, even according to my picky Singaporean colleague. I highly recommend trying the specialty dish, bun cha, it's delicious!
A little effort could make this small venue a hit but sadly it fails to satisfy. It's been surviving for a while now fulfilling a gap as one of the rare Asian venues in the area. Why not take advantage of lack of competition? Too bad the effort is not put in to make it shine.
I was a little disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I had ordered Bun Cha and was expecting a large bowl of warm/hot dipping sauce with BBQ pork and pickled carrot, as well as noodles and mint salad on the side, with chopped chilli and garlic as condiments, as is traditionally served in Hanoi. However, what I received at Bun Cha was a large bowl of noodles and pickled carrot with a small amount of mint and a few slices of BBQ pork. The cold dipping sauce served on the side was also disappointing. The dish cost around £10 and lacked the traditional condiments of chopped garlic and chilli. While the pork was tasty, the overall flavor was mediocre. The Pho looked more appealing, and I regret not choosing that instead. On a positive note, the service was fast and friendly. I may consider returning to try the Pho in the future.
This Vietnamese café is truly charming! I highly recommend trying the chicken dumpling Pho. The staff is very friendly, but please note they only accept cash payments.
