We had an unbelievable brunch at the Boathouse on IOP! Everything was perfection and HUGE portions. We sat at the outside bar where our bartender was our server. She was ADORABLE and took our picture by the water to capture a Father 's Day special moment! The view was beautiful right over the water! See photos! The Shrimp and grits were the BEST I have ever had with just the right spiciness and flavor! Salmon and Mah... View all feedback.
What Jill H doesn't like about The Boathouse Rooftop:
Service was good but the food was underwhelming. Well trained staff had timing down on the courses with good communication and quick turnaround. We had SC oysters, shrimp cocktail, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies to start. Hush puppies were a bit dry but had good flavor. Oysters were a good size and tasty, no grittiness to them and the cocktail sauce was good. Entrees there were quite a few of us but we had an ove... View all feedback.

The Shrimp and grits were the BEST I have ever had with just the right spiciness and flavor! Salmon and Mahi Mahi were the other two orders which had tons of flavor with the lemon butter sauce. We also had the corn Hushpuppies too. Fabulous! Going back again when I 'm in town!

Oysters were a good size and tasty, no grittiness to them and the cocktail sauce was good. Entrees there were quite a few of us but we had an overlap of dishes: lobster tails, mediocre iceberg wedge salad (added chicken protein was about 4 oz for $10!! , seafood pescatore (a special pasta with mussels, calamari, fish , Caesar salad, and crab cakes. Overall, feedback on the seafood was that it was hardly seasoned. We were all pretty dissatisfied with our meals, not to mention the seating wasn't ideal for a large party.
Excellent location on the Inlet, great views of area, marsh, sunset....limited parking thus plan accordingly...had a few cocktails on the 2nd floor outside bar. Bartender was fun, informative, and mixed as requested. Found our way lower floor to restaurant, its small thus a tight fit. as the dining room filled quickly. We enjoyed: Sweet corn hushpuppies lightly fried, excellent taste, 2 platters of fried flounder excellent batter, fresh taste, fresh taters Wait person was friendly, kitchen was efficient given the room was packed... Give this establishment a try!!!
I was excited to try this spot after living here my whole life and having never tried it. family was in town from out of state and we thought this the perfect spot to catch up. The drinks were decent and the food was pretty good.... with the exception of the fried green tomatoes that were extremely soggy. My biggest complaint is the pitcher and saucer set up the have in the back dining room by the water. I don't know if there are similar set ups around the restaurant but this was my experience. It is completely unhygienic! They keep them directly behind guests where hair and anything else can get in them/touch them. I didn't notice the set up until one of the servers grabbed the pitcher and I felt a wet smack on my back where my hair had been IN it and proceeded to fall on the saucer plates. We told them what happened and they changed out the water and tried to put it back. I said no, this is unhygienic and is going to happen again. Surely I can't be the first person this has happened with. Another server ended up sneaking the pitcher back to which they yanked my hair when grabbing it. I ended up putting the salt shaker on top of the plates to keep them from putting it there. (pictured so you can see just how close it was. Next to me on the other side of the aisle we noticed a similar situation where a man kept taking his hat off and brushing his head or stretching his arms back onto the saucers and pitcher behind him. For this alone I'll never go back and highly recommend you too visit elsewhere.even for the quality of food there are much better places to spend your money at in Charleston. If this is what they do in the dining room, I can only imagine what codes they are breaking in the kitchen.
First of all our server was fabulous Bar smelled like dirty rag used to wipe down before we sat.. gross Hubs ordered flounder dinner 2 VERY small pieces of fish was not worth the price. Mac cheese tasted good but was quite dry and not creamy at all. My crab legs were tasty but the hardest to crack I 've had in 40 years of eating them. Not sure what that was about. We love the location and it 's a regular spot when visiting the island. However if the food quality continues to drop we 'll have to find a new place to go.
