Feedback
I ordered the Grilled Lemongrass Pork Shoulder Banh Mi and was surprised by the small portion of fries provided. It's always a bit of a surprise when ordering takeout, but this was particularly disappointing.
Starting with the Grilled 5-Spiced Chicken Banh Mi, I give it a 3.5/5. It's important to note that this is not a traditional Vietnamese banh mi, as reflected in its flavor profile and ingredients. I ordered the 5-spiced chicken, which was flavorful but unfortunately quite dry. I felt it lacked the fresh, crunchy texture and sweet acidity from the traditional pickled carrots and daikon. The pickled vegetables were sliced very thinly and didn't bring much acidity or flavor. Additionally, there was no pâté, which is one of my favorite banh mi ingredients. The bread itself was good, showing freshness with its fluffy softness. However, for delivery, the outer crust of the banh mi can become soggy due to condensation during transport. I did appreciate the sliced jalapeños, which added a nice touch of heat. As for the Crab Rangoon, I’d rate it a 4/5. It’s a nostalgic guilty pleasure for me and definitely hit the spot. The Kabli Short Ribs received a 3/5 rating. I was a bit disappointed with the amount of meat, as I don’t think it was worth the price. There were 7 pieces, but many of them were mostly bone. The meat was also a little dry and overcooked. On the positive side, the marinade was quite flavorful. The broths deserve a 4/5 rating; they are very tasty, though a bit on the salty side, making them a great match for the banh mi and rice. The broth option that comes with the banh mi is a vegetarian broth (8 oz), which is lighter and ginger-forward. I also ordered a side of beef broth, which surprisingly came in a 32 oz container—definitely a good value for the price. Speaking of sides, the jasmine rice came with two generous servings!
