My husband and I stopped here while in Cleveland. We moved from Southern California a few months ago and have been missing authentic El Salvadoran food. This place was great! It is a family owned hole-in-the wall restaurant. There was plenty of seating, and the staff was great. The papusas were made fresh to order. My husband is gluten free and lactose intolerant. What bahno doesn't like about Pupuseria Y Antojitos Mexicanos:
As this place had quite good reviews here on TA, my friend and I thought it could be a nice place to have a meal before heading to the live music in Plaza Dorrego. We ordered nachos as an appetizer and tacos and a burrito as the main dish. Nachos never arrived on our table. The burrito and tacos were OK, but nothing special. View all feedback.
Friendly staff. Bland pupusas, super greasy. Decent cabbage/curtido. Mandatory 20% gratuity
All of the papusas are gluten free. He got the vegan papusas, and they were packed with veggies! I had a vegan papusa and a bean cheese papusa. The bean and cheese was my favorite, but both were good. The papusas came with a red salsa and cabbage salsa, which were delicious. We also got sides of beans, rice, and fried plantains. We would definitely come back here if we're up visiting from Columbus.
Excellent service and really great food. Delicious and fresh and astonishingly affordable. Wonderful atmosphere. Don't miss it !
Ugh so good and such a good find!! This is an authentic restaurant serving El Salvadoran food including pupusas as the name suggests. Their pupusas are homemade, masa corn flour cakes stuffed with a variety of different ingredients like refried beans, meat, and/or cheese. I 'm usually a phone eats first kind of girl, but the food was so good we ended up just digging in so unforunately, no pics for the review : We did take out and the food was piping hot even after a 20 minute drive back. We ordered a variety of pupusas: de queso, picante, queso con lorco, pollo, and reveultas. The order was very affordable at a price you just can 't beat 2.50/pupusa), and these babies were a very generous portion size. I was stuffed after eating about 2 and a half pupusas! My favorites were the queso con lorco cheese with Salvadorian edible flower) and revueltas a combo of refried beans, cheese, and chicharron). The pupusas come with a salsa roja and curtido El Salvadoran slaw). The combination is perfect!! I will definitely be coming again to check out some of their other menu items!
If I could give 6 stars, I would. Pupuseria y Antojitos Guanaquitas is a refreshingly authentic El Salvadoran restaurant. Whenever I'm craving a hearty meal, my mind always wanders to their pupusa picante. Served piping hot, the jalapeño and cheese filling is so flavorful and juicy. The red sauce and pickled vegetables that you pour on top complement the pupusa very well. I typically feel very full after two pupusas, but usually buy more so that I can make it into two meals. With each pupusa only being $2.50, this may be the biggest bang for your buck that I've seen in Cleveland. Not to get jalapeño business, but what are you waiting for??
