The food was fantastic, and although it was a bit noisy inside, the waiting time was surprisingly short given the season. A nice touch is that they text you when your table is ready—definitely worth a try! View all feedback.
What Danny Fair doesn't like about Guppy's On The Beach:
Service 0/10 Food 1/10 (way overpriced chefs can’t cook) This place isn’t even an experience. Do yourself a favor and skip it for something else. The part I’m most annoyed about is having to lose my precious time writing this review. View all feedback.
We began our experience at Guppy's by being told we had no reservation despite having shown them the OpenTable reservation AND having shown them the text to confirm the day of...with the confirmation. The front desk staff were a little off-putting so it was not a banner start to the dinner. They were able to seat us as it's the offseason however we sat outside which was hot, humid. We also sat adjacent to the entrance walkway so it was a high traffic area. The waiter did a great job of keeping up with our table which was great since it was so hot and the kitchen was timely so kudos to both. The restaurant clearly has an offseason menu as it was much smaller and lacked the meals we're used to seeing. We ended up having to punt with what to order. Overall, it was an atypical trip to Guppy's. We have never had an experience like this one so we're writing it off as an anomaly but it's not easy to swallow a nearly $200 bill given the circumstances. We'll likely return in the future but we'll dine at other restaurants before we do.
*Almost* everything about our first visit to guppies was perfect (I’ll save the almost for last). Our server was lovely, food was delicious, our table was ready at exact time we made our reservation. ambience is fun and welcoming and prices are fair. We arrived early for a drink at the bar. Turns out, it was happy hour. Ordered a well and a glass of wine when the bill came, we were charged regular price for the well. Mentioned it to the bartender, who was blatantly annoyed that we would nitpick a small detail, but the menu was sitting right in front of us with the correct price. No apology, btw. Returned the check with another total, (still didn’t match the price on the menu, again no apology). Honestly, not sure why a restaurant would have prices on the happy hour menu if they don’t match what shows up on the bill, and why a bartender would be put out by a quick drink (we sat for about 10 minutes) and customers wanting to be charged correctly. Not cool.
The front ladies, especially the older one…need training on how to treat a customer. Every year I give them a chance and I get disappointed how they treat their customers. One year they charged me 40% tip. Today I was completely ignored when I tried to order take out. There are so many fine dining establishments in the area… I have to chuckle and say God Speed!!!
Food was surprisingly fantastic. I ordered the lobster bisque 8 Oz cup really flavorful, my wife and I shared the short rib and bacon wrapped swordfish both were just sooo good! Finished with a chocolate cake
I've been on vacation all week, eating up and down the east coast... south carolina, Georgia, florida ...and the best food (ceviche, blue crab guac* was HERE AT HOME IRB!!! 10 OUT OF 10
