Set in a converted vintage service station beside a park, this laid-back BBQ spot serves smoked meats (brisket, ribs, pulled pork, chicken), craft beer, cider and pizza with an open-air patio and dog- and family-friendly vibe. Praise centers on smoky barbecue, friendly staff and park views, while criticism notes inconsistent portioning, occasional warm beer, limited sides and spotty sauce/temperature. Great for casual meals, live-music nights and takeout, though recent management shifts and a changing crowd have altered the atmosphere for some.

Was Ven S at Mecanico a mag?
Ray is the man! My good friend Will raved about this place on his way to Independence after having picked me up from Portland. I got really excited about trying their food. This place is super cool. What Laurie W dislikes about Mecanico:
I came here EVERY Friday last summer for music in the park because: beer deals cheaper than getting them in the park, AMAZING BBQ, bonfires galore and you can see and hear the music. Now? Well, you can see and hear the music. I dont know what happened to my amazing favorite summer hangout, but it's gone. No fires, no BBQ, and not even measly happy hour during events. Next Friday, I'll be sitting closer to the music,... View all feedback.
Came to Mecanico today after getting horrific service at another establishment down the street. There was none of that here. Staff was friendly and helpful and we had drinks and our food in less time than it took to get acknowledged at the other place. The open air concept was awesome and it overlooks the beautiful park next door I love that they kept the overall look of a vintage gas station. I had the apple bacon blue cheese pizza which sounds odd but was absolutely delicious. It smelled so good the people next to us had to know what we ordered. My husband ordered the BLT and it looked amazing. Nice thick cut bacon on what looked like fresh bread. And the hand cut French fries looked so good I had to steal a couple from him (they were as good as they looked). I'm always looking for good places where our dog is welcome and this is a great place. Saw several people with their four legged friends coming and going. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

The outdoor yard in the back makes for an awesome place to sit, relax and enjoy some good food and beverages. It overlooks the river and the ridge on the other side of it. They have fireplaces where they burn wood so that the customers can gather around them to keep warm. I had the specially made mac and cheese, and a serving of baked beans. Then I had beef brisket, and beef brisket again. It was all so incredibly good.
Went back yesterday after a year, wanted to try the BBQ it always smells so good when I walk by. Well when we went in we saw 3 customers sitting at tables eating subway sandwiches, I thought that was a sign! But we decided to try the BBQ sandwiches anyway, MISTAKE! I ordered a brisket sandwich my son ordered a pulled chicken sandwich. My sandwich had 3 pieces of meat on it and one of those pieces was half fat, it was $9!!My son's chicken was PLAIN chopped chicken with BBQ sauce on the bun. Buns are huge with little bit of meat!! RIP off big time!! Go to subway for a $6 foot long!!! Others in there must have had their OVERPRICED mediocre BBQ sandwiches before and came prepared and brought their own food!!!
