My name is fred jump from California usa. In 1980 I was a few weeks at aida. I also visited more paints in the 80s and 90s. they just started the hostel, then by themselves. Their children were small. as she had just started, the things weren't as I see the pictures today. in these days there were only 5 or 8 rooms in total. some even hang hammocks and put sleeping bags in the current dinning room. the shower was outside. her dining room was her living room, which looks like today's kitchen. In 1980 I was there when her first of them arrived. it was made of plywood and the inside was lined with 2 layers of aluminum paper. a glowing beacon depends on the inside. everyone looked at and wondered if she thought she could cook in a plywood box with a light bulb. we all laughed. we laughed even harder when we heated delicious cake in the night boiled in the plywood box with the light bulb. aida showed us! she did what was necessary to work. I see now, it is much bigger and looks very successful. good for you aida! this trip I started in february 1980 through South America lasted 15 months. from all countries and places I visited, casa aida felt more like home than all others. aida took her home. she always had a friendly smile. I often wonder how many people in the world think passionately about their journey to ecuador and casa aida and the love and friendliness aida has given to everyone. I am 63 years old now and planning a trip to ecuador with my 23 year old son next year. I look forward to my friend aida.
This is the story of aida. aida is 86 years old and the proud owner of @casaaidavolcanimbabura – the house we stayed during our ascent to vulcan imbabura. a waisenkind since the old 7, aida was born in the capital, but soon after the firmness moved into a small village called esperanza (hope,) where she bought a small piece land with nothing but a hut and backyard. with 3 children to feed, she traveled to the city to sell a few burgers and iron hundreds of hemden over night. in a night in 1975 11 Italian jerk bags knocked at their door looking for protection – all the hotels in the city had turned them away because they were “dirty hippies”. aida offered them their backyard to set up their tents. the next day, and not to find elsewhere, the Italians wondered if aida would have them for an extra night. it was aidas pleasure to share what little she had, but she had no bathroom in the property. as they saw this, and in opposition to their generousness, the Italians built her a septic system. they were at least 2 months in the backyard of aida. aida refused the payment, but every day they would always collect and present them with some money. in this time spread the word of a safe heave for hippies, in a village called hope, open to backpacks from all over the world travel ecuador. soon more and more hippies appeared at the door of aida. the attention was not well received and local accused aida of all kinds of dingen. police, immigration services and even interpol have often shown themselves, but aida has continued to receive traveling. she hosted them, handcrafted them, spanish, cook and even cared for their children. some stayed for days, weeks, months and even years. she was a grandmother, mother figure and friend of many of them, with some even back decades later to see her. Aida holds six whole books full of botanicals, in dozens of languages, from the year 1975 of all who have stayed with her. 46 years later, her anwesen 23 cozy rooms to welcome hippies, traveling, backpacks, families, and all who are interested in looking forward to their small house hidden under volcanoes in a city called hope.
Cool hostel in la esperanza at the foot of the mighty imbabura vulkans. I stayed here 1 month, jose and aida took care of me. say hello to her nice three-legged dog rambo.
This place has a unique atmosphere and it was a big pleasure for me to meet legendary owner Aida and listen to her wonderful stories. Also Aida serves great pancakes for breakfast and vegetarian dinners. Hostal Casa Aida is also best spot where to start hike to vulcano Imbabura:
