I spent 43 euros on 3 slices of seitan with sauce and a baked potato. Yes, Hvar is known for being expensive, but charging the same price for seitan as for a high-quality steak is unacceptable.
The vegan food at this restaurant is fantastic, and the service is exceptional. Although the vegan options are not listed on the menu, the waiter explained that they are primarily a steak and fish house. Despite this, they are still willing to accommodate all guests and may consider adding vegan options to the menu in the future. The creative vegan dishes, such as smoked tofu Parmesan and seitan steak, allow for fine dining experiences. While prices may be high, the outstanding service and complimentary gifts from the kitchen make them reasonable. A helpful tip is to try speaking some basic Croatian, as the waiters will appreciate the effort.
The menu can be misleading, but once they know you are vegan, they take the time and care to guide you through the many vegan alternatives available. This includes a seitan steak that is not listed on the menu. Any additional small appetizers provided also had a vegan option. Even the Parmesan for the gnocchi had a vegan substitute.
The attention to detail in this place is incredible. It’s such a shame they don’t advertise their vegan offering cause the food is incredible and I bet it’s put other vegans off just looking at their menu, I only knew of this place because of HappyCow. They offer two types of vegan gnocchi (tomato or truffle), a seitan steak in place of regular steak (i think there was a couple of options for this too a spicy peppercorn one or truffle one), for starters there is a vegan vegetable soup or they can modify the courgette dish to have smoked tofu cheese rather than feta, similarly with the salad. They also brought out complimentary shots (including a non alcoholic one for the kiddos) at the start and end of your meal, and a complimentary starter which was like a cheesy polenta dish using the smoked tofu. It was expensive even for Hvar but it’s a great dining experience. Good knowledge of wines too. All in all a great experience
