Scribner's Catskill Lodge - Hunter
Scribner's Catskill Lodge
Description
Nestled in the scenic Catskills, Scribner's Lodge offers a blend of rustic charm and upscale amenities. Guests rave about the cozy rooms and stunning views, making it a perfect escape. While the onsite restaurant boasts good food, the high prices and inconsistent service leave some visitors wanting more. Coffee has been reported cold and service sporadic, especially at busy times. However, the supportive staff is often highlighted, providing assistance even during hectic events. With various on-site activities and a dog-friendly atmosphere, Scribner's is an appealing choice for a mini getaway or corporate retreat, though potential guests should manage expectations regarding service.

Overall had a great stay here with my husband. The lofted room at the lodge was large, and the fireplace made it very cozy. Appreciated that there was an onsite restaurant, free wreath making class, sauna, good service, free tastings, and s’mores/fire nightly. There was a good mix of activities and we slept well- couldn’t hear any outside noise. Loved the common area with games and there was always space to sit. As someone who is allergic to dogs, it was a little challenging to have dogs around at all times (even the restaurant). In hindsight might have booked elsewhere had I known but glad we went because it wasn’t too much of a bother. Great restaurants nearby and was a breath of fresh air. Service: 4
We stayed at the rounds and it was lovely. Super clean and well done. Loved the fireplace and how dog friendly it was. The outdoor bath was very relaxing. One star off though as housekeeping really did the least the first night and came at awkward hours. They also didn’t replace the tea/coffee or the used mugs or take the room service box we had the night before. Also our hot water stopped working but they fixed it while we were out. WiFi was also a bit spotty. Some variety in snacks and tea in the apex lounge would have been a nice. But overall was a great stay. Service: 4
I recently stayed the weekend at Scribner's. The highlight for me was dinner at Prospect—the food was delicious, and the cocktails from the bar menu were top-notch. Breakfast was a stark difference from the quality of food at dinner, but it was lovely to enjoy coffee and an egg sandwich out on the patio in the morning. I also loved how dog-friendly the hotel is; it was such a treat to have our pup with us. Relaxing by the fire was a perfect way to unwind and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The location is fantastic, especially with all the fun fall activities in the area. I did have a couple of small challenges during my stay. I found the concierge wasn’t as helpful as I had hoped when I asked about local activities like apple picking. The concierge gives out a guide of hikes/other things in the area, but I found that if i asked for local suggestions beyond the guide, the response was that they could google it for me. Which I am more than happy to do the same, but it is nice to get a suggestion from the hotel concierge who might be more in the know of things in the area! Additionally, while there were a few aspects of the room that didn’t quite meet my expectations based on the nightly cost of the room. The tiles in bathroom in particular felt a bit dated along with the shower curtain, compared to the glass shower door pictured in the online room photos. Overall, Scribner's location is great, and we enjoyed our get away with our pup! Service: 3
The hotel is beautifully decorated and the grounds are lovely. However the staff, despite having their Marriott policies on their website, seem to have zero understanding or recognition of elite status. From the restaurant to the front desk, the hotel seems understaffed. Don't expect an upgrade or late checkout for elite members. Restaurant had great food, but our waitress seemed to run away any time we had questions. Cute hotel, but pretty disappointed with the service we received. Service: 2
Scribner’s is such an absolute delight. Very dog friendly. During our stay, we felt very welcome with our pup! Beautiful mountain views from the lodge and pool. Great staff, incredible restaurant and bar. There’s not much more we could ask for. The lodge itself is a 5 minute drive from the base of Hunter Mountain/Kaatskill Flyer (which I also recommend checking out). Service: 5
