My wife and I took a spontaneous trip to see Christmas lights, and one of the places we wanted to visit was Wakeeney. The lights were stunning, and the small-town atmosphere was even better. We drove around the city and noticed groups of people crossing the street toward the Western Kansas Saloon and Grill. We decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice! We loved the cozy atmosphere, which reminded us of our own small-town community. The food was amazing—I had a 16 oz ribeye, and it was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The service was excellent, especially considering how crowded it was; the staff was working hard and running around to accommodate everyone. They were friendly and very pleasant, making our experience even better. It’s a long drive from home, but if we’re ever in the area again, we’ll definitely stop by and enjoy this restaurant!
During my trip to South Dakota, I stopped by the Western KS Saloon Grill, and what a delightful surprise it was! The owners are incredibly warm and inviting, making you feel right at home. As for the burgers—wow, they're absolutely the best I've ever had! I can’t wait to return. It was refreshing to feel welcomed, almost like a local, and the menu is fantastic, too!
We visited this restaurant on a weekday while passing through, and it was clear we were in for a treat as many locals dine here. The menu offers a great variety, and the specials are definitely worth a try. We enjoyed the chicken noodle soup and the KC Strip with Jack Daniels Teriyaki glaze, both of which were cooked to perfection. The side dishes were generous and tasted fantastic. Overall, we were very happy with both the food and the service. The prices were fair, and the quality was excellent. We would absolutely return here the next time we’re in the area.
Best rib eye steak I have ever had!!! Tender and cooked to perfection. Owner raises and butcher’s his own meat. $22.00 for a 16oz rib eye insanely cheap for the meat prices in the store. Hubby got a pasta dish, which was good, but after tasting my steak he wished we had split it?. Service and food was EXCELLENT!!
My wife and I stayed the night in town to do a story on the town 's North Pole exhibit. We chose this location to eat after getting recommendations from the locals. I ordered the chicken fried steak which unfortunately was an obvious previously frozen pattie and not fresh nor homemade. It tasted fine but wasn 't anything special. The rest of the meal was great. The mashed potatoes were phenomenal. They were perfectly seasoned with salt and garlic. They were creamy and rich in flavor. The salad the meal came with had crisp lettuce and fresh vegetables. The vinegarette was quite nice. I pulled a Tim Allen from The Santa Claus and ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. It was hot and filled with hotter fudge. The cake quickly satisfied any sweet tooth I had when I walked into the restaurant. The bar had a nice selection of spirits. My wife and I favor bourbon. We were happy to see they had some of our favorites on hand. I had the Knob Creek and my wife had the Elijah Craig Small Batch. Both are nice bourbons. The waitstaff was very nice and friendly as well. They were quite helpful in recommending other places to visit in town.
