What Jay Wierschem doesn't like about Bilda's Friess Lake Pub:
Rude bartender. Bad chili and rueben. Chicken tenders weren't even real meat. Unless you are looking for a place to party with friends, you'd be better off going anywhere else. Joe Mama's down the road is substantially better. View all feedback.
I ordered the platter with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Just like the wings, the brisket was probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The ribs were incredibly tender and had a great texture; as soon as I picked one up, it fell right off the bone. The pulled pork was also delicious. We also tried the burnt ends, which were exceptional, with the fat rendered just right. I would rate this a perfect 10 out of 10 and highly recommend everyone to give it a try. This was my first visit, but I will definitely return the next time I’m in town since I live far away in Minneapolis. Great job, friends! Keep up the fantastic work and the delicious food!!!
Interesting spot. Interior isn't too large you order at the cash register. They also have outdoor seating there was live music outside when I visited. My rueben was very good. ~20 beers on tap, mostly regional craft beers, but also some Belgian andGerman beers. Wide variety of styles. Definitely a little gem of a place.
I started my experience at the bar with a glass of Barbe Ruby, a light, sour cherry-flavored beer from Belgian Family Brewers. The selection of beers on tap and in the fridge is extensive, and there's a board listing all the available options. Don't hesitate to ask for a sample to help you choose your drink. For appetizers, I tried the burnt ends, which were essentially fried cubes of steak smothered in BBQ sauce. They were decent—good for snacking while enjoying a drink. I then ordered the Friday fish fry, which included five generous pieces of deep-fried, beer-battered cod, along with little cups of tartar sauce and coleslaw. The dish also came with a large portion of deep-fried potato wedges, which filled half the plate and were quite thick and curly. The fish fry was enjoyable and satisfying. The staff, including the waitstaff and bartenders, were polite, cheerful, and friendly. The decor is also quite charming, featuring a variety of old beer advertising signs, local business signs, quotes, and growlers. There is outdoor seating with a unique firetruck used as a tap and a stage for live music. Overall, it was a great outing!
We visited for lunch on a Friday and were pleasantly surprised to find that the fish fry specials are available all day! I chose the brisket sandwich and added fried onions on top. It was incredibly tender and full of flavor. I can't wait to explore more items on their menu!
