Our Peruvian host took us there for lunch. We enjoyed a couple of local specialties (all vegan plus a fish item that is somewhere between calamari and beef jerky! There were lots of different sauces to try too. The food is unusual and while I don’t think any gringos would find it objectionable I doubt it will become a favorite of many of us either. I particularly enjoyed all the photos that the owner has accumulated over the years. They provide an intriguing insight into the history of Huaraz, its culture and its people. The prices are extremely reasonable.

The portion siz... read more We came here to try out the chocho and were not dissappointed! The food was great and they had a good selection of juices by the carafe (jarra). The portion sizes are big (for the super size) and was big enough for two to share (although I ate bfast two hours before going). The decor is great as well...full of photos depicting Peruvian history. Don't miss this if you are in Huaraz!

I'll be ho... read more On our last day in Huaraz we debated where to eat lunch, after finding our first choice was closed we found this place - and we were ecstatic we did. I'll be honest reading about vegetarian ceviche didn't excite me but it was pretty amazing. Their menu is limited as you can see from the picture (10 meal items), but why do many things well when you can do a few things amazingly! We had the Chocho Super Taita (we weren't sure what is was except that the chocho was the ceviche made with a legume in place of fish). The "super" portion was that it came with a side of diced fresh fish to pour over our legumes. Everything came in it's own container - the toasted corn, the leche de tigre, the fish, and the legumes. The sauce was spicy and some patrons barely touched it, but for us the spicier the better - so we obviously used the entire thing! Sad we only found this place on the last day because I thought it was delicious, I plan to try to make it at home. The prices are unbeatable, check this place out!

Servings are small though.
