**Discovering Authentic Puerto Rican Cuisine in Houston** Nestled in a cozy, homey setting, this restaurant stands out as a beacon of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine in Houston. Guests rave about the genuine flavors and ample portions, particularly praising dishes like mofongo and carne frita. The welcoming owner, Ángel, ensures each meal is prepared with care, evoking a sense of familial warmth that enhances the dining experience. Although some diners noted inconsistencies in food quality and service, many believe the home-cooked flavors make it worth a visit. For those seeking a taste of Puerto Rico, this hidden gem may just feel like a slice of home.
The food was hot delicious! A wonderful family restaurant! Nice ambiance and the staff was very friendly and outgoing!Parking: I parked right in front of the restaurant. Other parking available on the streetWheelchair accessibility: Easy went into the restaurant. No steps nor stairs!
The food is decent, and the prices are fair for the portion sizes. However, I wouldn't suggest this place if you're looking for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. The fried meat, or carne frita, lacked flavor and seasoning, as did the beans. The mofongo was alright, but the plantains were not ripe enough to use. The air conditioning in the restaurant doesn't work very well, so be prepared to feel warm while dining. Once the food is served, no one comes by to see if you need anything else. Additionally, there is no parking available; you'll have to find a spot on the street. Overall, I cannot recommend this place.
Ordered an empanadilla de carne (beef empanada) and the bistek encebollado con arroz blanco y habichuelas (steak with onions, white rice and beans). Everything came out fresh and the food was delicious. The owner is from Guanica, PR. An extremely humble man and the customer service from the rest of the employees was nothing short of phenomenal. This place is as authentic as it gets. I 100% recommend stopping by.
The owner was extremely friendly, and the food was both delicious and fresh. The interior of the restaurant is quite small, and the prices are a bit on the high side (we spent $42 with tip for dinner for two), but we would definitely return.
