Been here twice during our recent visit to Mt Hotham. Had the pork knuckle the first night and was not disappointed. Juicy pork with amazing crackle washed down with half a little of German beer. Second night came back to try the schnitzel. Was expected veal however found it was chicken. Slightly disappointed however it was still probably the best I have eaten. Hugh meals for a bid appetite and excellent German beer... View all feedback.
What Allison Hackett doesn't like about Arco Ski-Lodge:
The standard of food at the ski resorts I've been to in Australia have been fairly average and the prices for food above average. We ordered the 2 person share platter and the egg noodles. It was too much food for 5 people. This is not a criticism. Just a warning not to over order. This restaurant serves German pub food. The standard of the food was similar to Hofbrauhaus (Melbourne). That is to say, it's not bad. Th... View all feedback.
After having a disappointing experience at this restaurant last year, we decided to give it another try on a slower weekday. The cuisine here is German, with generously sized and hearty meals such as German sausages, Kessler pork chops, sauerkraut, and potatoes. Despite being full, we couldn't resist trying the apple strudel for dessert.

That is to say, it's not bad. The restaurant was clearly understaffed on the Saturday night we were there. It was very difficult to get anyone's attention. It took about 15 minutes to order, 15 minutes to get the bill and another 15 minutes to pay. They needed at least another 3 to 4 staff members.I did go there again the next day on a late afternoon to get a coffee. The woman who served me was lovely.
A great place to eat after a long day on the slopes. The serving sizes are generous and hearty. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. I have eaten here with a group and also several times solo and the service in every instance has been attentive and responsive. Value for money. Some gluten free options are available. They also have a take away option if you prefer to eat in your lodge.

Once you've sat down and you have one of the huge steins of beer in your hand, you might have to remind yourself that you are not actually in the Bavarian Alps. The bar man wear lederhosen, the beer is proper German brands poured draft into huge glasses or even bigger steins. The food is even better. Very authentic (we've travelled to Germany many many times and my wife lived there for a year) and very delicious. Between the 8 of us on our table we pretty much ordered everything on the menu. All of it was consistently very good. The sharing platter represented good value for money and the rest of the menu was typically priced for a remote ski resort. We had two children in our party who were both welcomed and catered for very well. The service was friendly and efficient but the sight of two security guards at the door when we came in was a little off putting. Maybe it gets a bit raucous when the place is packed out in high season. The evening we went was midweek and towards the end of the season. All in all, excellent!
