Seehotel Kastanienbaum - Horw

We have here 2 years in succession vacation and we love the location and the entire atmosphere. the rooms are in order, a little dated now and needs updating e.g. of pain. comfortable, but without air conditioning, the nights can be hard. the breakfast is great, only the coffee machine is annoying, as the waiting times can be too long. service overall good, my wife has a complementary desert sign to birthday. the hotel is all about the location. we love the view of the lake: from the room balcony of the terrace at the breakfast and dinner of the loungers at the private beach now we come to the dings that make this an excellent hotel: although there is a free minibar, the filling is slow and too small (1 bottle of bier per day in a double room). so be a bit more generously refreshing the rooms that the price tag for the rooms they receive is steep. especially in the summer it is jar! the restaurant offers nice food, but variety is limited especially for children and vegetarians. also can divide on the small side so, overall we like it there and the place which makes for the imperfections. we hope to be back.

We were 4 adults who travel together for 18 days thru north Italy and lucern. this was a few days of relaxing loneliness before the city lucern. the personal is amazing. friendly, professional and ready, as good as they can. we have traveled 6 hours with the car of bozen through the stelvio pass. at our arrival we were looking forward to a bottle of wine and some cheese and bread before dinner. if they wanted to buy brot from the restaurant, they informed us that they had no, but would bake us a fresh bread that could be picked up in ten minutes. really welcome! we went into our rooms. the carpets in the fluren and the coat were stained. the carpet in our rooms, more. no air conditioning and no screens. to leave the door open for the airflow, we were quickly airborne and mounded. the view of the lake and the mountain was breathtaking, but the balcony could hardly sit 2 persons, let alone 4. the bed cover had a spot on it and the bathroom were over tiny to get into the shower, a step-stone would have been useful to come across the side of the tub. the bus stop was just in front of the hotel and buses ran frequently and on time. an excellent opportunity to come in and out of the city. no fee for the use of this service, as the hotel provided visitors to each of us. we had planned to eat in the restaurant on the property, but the menu did not seem to our wish. the reviews complained about the service that was asleep, so we decided to go to the city. the sleep was difficult in this night due to heat and filling the space despite the oscillating ventilator. the breakfast was sufficient and the service was okay. also the restaurant staff, like all the others working there, was friendly and welcoming, but how much can 2 people do? the flying and mosquitoes that were ever present, circled and bite during the meal. a survey of the outside area proved to be disappointing. the breakfast remains unattended on the outside terrace, and there were no less than 15 birds flying around, trying to drag the remains and drop them everywhere. the plots were not well maintained, weeds and overgrown gardens were unsightly. nothing like the photos on the website. no lounge chair everywhere. where were all nice on their website? when I informed the manager, we would go earlier than expected, because our disappointment with the accommodations, she was gracious and professional. they voluntarily issued a credit for the unused time. this was very appreciated, as the nightly price with breakfast was almost twice as high as we had paid in each company before. I can honestly say that this hotel, where it is, in a picturesque environment right in front of the city, could be a beautiful, relaxing and wonderful reize of the mass of luzern. how regrettable that the owners or the parent company have allowed to deteriorate in such an abyss location. the personal is to congratulate to provide such a happy front and service with a smile.

I had the opportunity to stay in this hotel for a weekend. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall look and the feeling of the hotel and the location along the luzernsee. I recommend to take a boat trip from lucerene to kastanienbaum see hotel as there is a harbour right in front of the hotel. they can better appreciate the beautiful mountain landscape and the lush seascape they visit. in the arrival the team at the reception was very helpful, rooms and facilities clean and terrace view made our day. In general, however, I would suggest that I say goodbye to dinner sooner than later.

Beautiful views, Great Lake access, decent restaurant. HOWEVER, do not stay here if it is summer. There is no AC and the rooms are stuffy and too hot to sleep. The staff will provide you with a small fan for the room, but there are 3 problems with this: 1. The fan will not cool the room, it will still be intolerably hot. 2. There are no screens so the room will be full of bugs. We had mosquitoes (and bites) all night and a moth the size of a small bird flew in. 3. The balconies are all shared with adjacent rooms, and many people in Switzerland smoke, so the room will be filled with second hand smoke morning and night. We wanted to like this hotel, and the setting is great, but the rooms are so awful for sleeping we checked out a day early, even though we had prepaid, and the staff would not offer even a partial refund.
