We had hoped... read more If as we were you 're planning on hiring a car for a day tour of Faial and are wondering where to have lunch, look no further. This is the place ! We had hoped to find a restaurant our car hire company had recommended but it turned out to be closed so we continued along the road hoping to find somewhere else for a light lunch. As we were driving along, we noticed at least a dozen local workmen standing outside a very modest looking restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. As you enter, you are immediately struck by the spectacular view you get of the Atlantic, hundreds of feet below you. The situation is really impressive. All the tables along the broad sweep of the panoramic windows have exceptional views. We each had octopus salad. Others on nearby tables were eating fish. The food was delicious and really well presented. We also had dessert, beer and some wine. The bread was made in house and included an interesting local sweet bread, which tasted more like cake. The service was efficient and very friendly without being too obtrusive or 'in your face '. Altogether, we came away from this place thinking we had struck gold. It was really memorable. I can 't recommend it highly enough !

Restaurante Rumar is a gem in Praia do Norte. Family run, friendly and always happy to help with questions, directions, whatever you may need. Delicious breakfa... read more Restaurante Rumar is a gem in Praia do Norte. Family run, friendly and always happy to help with questions, directions, whatever you may need. Delicious breakfast of Portuguese bread, toasted with ham and cheese and a latte ALWAYS hit the spot. We also enjoyed a fish burger for dinner one evening, again, absolutely delicious. While a simple atmosphere, the large glass windows provide a gorgeous view of Praia do Norte toward the coast and you are in awe of the beauty. It is an obvious local favorite and the conversations and laughter of those who gather let you know you have found a gem. There is also a market for basic needs, fresh veggies and fruit and other snacks. Put it on your list and be sure to enjoy!
