Romul's - HOOD RIVER
Romul's
Description
Nestled in a charming locale, this family-run restaurant offers a blend of culinary delights and a welcoming atmosphere. Patrons rave about the exceptional drinks, particularly Dominic's expertly crafted martinis, and the generous portion sizes. While the appetizers, such as the eggplant fries and Parmesan cod, receive high praise, some main courses have fallen short, lacking in flavor and presentation. Despite a few service hiccups and inconsistencies with entrées, the attentive and knowledgeable staff contribute to an enjoyable dining experience. With a focus on homemade dishes and an enticing dessert menu, this gem is worth a visit for a cozy meal or drinks at the bar.

We popped into Hood River after a late lunch at a nearby winery and were craving dessert and drinks. Finding nice dessert in Hood River around 5pm on a Saturday proved difficult, but then we walked by this place, saw there was a totally empty bar with barstools and many empty tables, so decided to stop in. When we told the hostess we were wanting dessert we were told “Full service only.” We weren’t even sure what that meant, so we just left, rather stunned. We could have easily spent $50+ bucks on drinks and dessert, sat at the empty bar and been out in an hour; they could have impressed us with good food, good drinks and excellent hospitality, and we would have come back again for dinner, but we weren’t given the opportunity to be impressed and leave happy customers. It was, well, a really strange approach to doing business (or not doing business). I’d leave a zero star review if that was possible, since we weren’t afforded the opportunity to eat.
We loved our meal sitting outside at Romuls. The appetizer bacon wrapped dates were amazing as was the meat and cheese platter. Our server was very polite and helpful. We will be back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Price per person: $20–30
Served us 11$ BURNT bruschetta. We sent it back because it tasted… burnt. The penne pasta dish Penne A la vodka was over cooked and lacked any flavor. The lemon chicken breast tasted flavorful but was soggy, and the vegetable sides didn’t have any flavor. The turtle dessert was tasty for chocolate lovers. Service was friendly. But I don’t understand the prices when I can get better food at Olive Garden for less.
Stated they were too busy to take dessert orders… food was nothing special, disappointing experience.
I have been going to Romuls with my family since I was like 9 years old when they were still located in The Dalles. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is so romantic, and the staff know what they're doing. Need a dish paired perfectly with a glass of wine? Done This business has been so generous and kind to my family as well. I cannot speak more highly of a restaurant. Thank you for a phenomenal night, I can't wait to come back!
