We had a truly excellent experience at Manitou! We enjoyed the white fish and the rib curls, both of which were delicious. The service was knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant was bustling on a Sunday night, which is always a good sign! View all feedback.
What Russell Collier doesn't like about The Manitou:
Overall the ambience and vibe were great. The bar and cocktails were spot on. As for the food, most of the plates we saw looked great in terms of preparation and portion. Unfortunately, while the menu offered sautéed Lake Perch, the Chef’s or kitchen’s version of sautéed was fried and battered. They looked more like a chicken tender, and the taste of the Perch was indiscernible due to the excessive breading. The bake... View all feedback.
After 16 years of marriage, my wife and I finally found The Manitou! My wife ordered the Duck. She said it was the best Duck she has had in 22 years! I had Fish and Chips. 7 huge pieces of lightly beer battered cod, fried to perfection. For the chips , I had sweet potato fries. (Hidden tip, ask for the lemon/garlic aioli sauce they make in house to dip the fries in. Hands down the best sweet potato fries I have ever had! Our waitress was super nice and helpful with everything we needed. She was knowledgeable and quick to offer suggestions when we asked. They have outdoor seating, so bring your dog. We did!
After about five hours of chasing the fish on our plates, my brother and I finally made it to the Manitou. We were starving like gods after being on the water all day. I know we looked a bit rough around the edges compared to the others there, who were dressed in golf attire with silver hair and an air of superiority. I couldn't help but feel that the staff might have been tired of us, perhaps viewing us as vagrants. But the experience was surprisingly wonderful. We both ordered the roasted white fish, and it did not disappoint. Overall, it was a good experience. We paid our bill at the end, although I could tell the staff might have expected us to leave without paying. Would we eat here again? Absolutely!
This is a fantastic local restaurant that may appear small from the outside, but don't be deceived—there's plenty of space inside, along with outdoor seating available in the summer. Our meal for six was delicious, and the staff was excellent, even though it was quite busy during our visit. The only downside is the parking situation, which is quite poor; they really need to create more parking spaces to avoid street parking. Aside from that, it's a wonderful place!

I opted for the M-22 Grill Market steak, priced at $28. It features a marinated Sirloin steak that strikes a delightful balance between sweet and savory. I requested mine cooked medium, accompanied by Potatoes au Gratin and a Garden Salad. Upon sitting down, I was pleasantly surprised to find a bowl of sliced cucumbers, celery, radishes, and carrots served with blue cheese dressing. Normally, I’m not a fan of such appetizers, but perhaps it was the flavor of the blue cheese that made it quite enjoyable. The steak was presented thinly sliced, and it was incredibly tender with exceptional flavor – a standout for an affordable cut. The salad was also impressive, and the Au Gratin potatoes were delicious and well-prepared, offering a delightful complexity. The bread served alongside was just mediocre, a bit too hard for my taste since I prefer softer bread. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, the service was commendable, with only a minor mix-up regarding the salad dressing, which was no major issue. Overall, I’d give this place a solid five-star rating. Would I return? Definitely! One downside, however, is the rather small parking lot, which forces patrons to park along the busy M22 highway – a situation that feels unsafe given the ample land surrounding the restaurant.
