We stayed here for four days and did not realize how wonderful it was until we moved south and stayed in Waikiki. The resort is very nice, well groomed, mostly nice staff. We had a nice room overlooking the ocean, and whatever roofed building was in front of our room. Really nice that we were given water bottles and there are water refilling stations on every floor. The room itself was perfect, good size for a family of four including two kids. The pool area was great, plenty of pool chairs, towels, and a great view of the bay and ocean. Great sunsets and you can sit on the grass right in front of the rocks ocean, but also huge wicker love seats that can fit a few people. There is also an outside Jacuzzi hot tub behind the grass. The pool itself however was nasty if you put goggles on and went underwater. For three days we saw Band-Aids, leaves, twigs, and other garbage floating at the bottom. Never cleaned while we were there. We had a few meals at the poolside cabana, however I have never been told off for trying to order at the bar and instead was instructed to find a seat and order from a server. Very odd as I had ordered from the bar the previous day with no problem. The beach was very nice, good for snorkeling, a long walk down the beach to much quieter beaches. You can also take a run along the sand trail that leads down the coast for some nice views. It was too hot to play golf or ride bikes. Live band at night at the inside bar, three stores inside, two of which are for gifts and souvenirs, the other was like a convenience store where you can buy almost anything, including alcohol. The woman at the concierge desk was really the only point of concern. We asked about surfing and after a few minutes of her typing and checking, we asked about the other activities to which we received “One moment! I am still typing.” She most certainly woke up on the wrong side of the bed. We drove out to Shark’s Cove (great) and Ted’s bakery (nice) one day which was very easy. I highly recommend driving up the east coast (83) from Honolulu as the mountains to the left and the ocean to the right are simply wonderful. We drove the interior on the way back and nothing really exciting about that route.
We came to the beach at Turtle Bay to enjoy the water and have lunch and drinks at Roy’s. We noticed they had a sectioned area for drinks so we put our chairs that we brought down, a young friendly local girl came by and asked if we’d like an umbrella and we declined we were waiting for the restaurant to open. No where did it say for hotel guests only just no alcohol beyond this point. At 11 o clock a Hawaiian lady came by, we asked if they were open for lunch and she wasn’t friendly told us we could not be in the roped off are with our chairs that we’d have to go to the bar for lunch and drinks. She was so rude we decided to just leave we can patronize a restaurant that is friendly. We won’t be back to Turtle Bay even though we lived here for 8 years and have stayed here several times. When people are on vacation they don't want to pay for rudeness .
Great view, cocktails were good, pricey but good, chicken wings were dry and lacked flavor, truffle fries could have been better if they were tossed instead of seasoned on the plate, apparently I expected better.
Mediocre food coupled with terrible service and high prices. It was not busy when we went and it took forever to get drinks and refills. Asked 3 times for a glass of water and finally gave up and filled an empty glass myself from the lobby water fountain. We had a group of 9 adults and 2 kids and the food runner would just randomly dump the food in the middle of the table and quickly walk away.We specifically went there because one of our group was a travel agent looking to see the resort for her clients and we were looking to see if we wanted to stay on our next trip and will not be returning.
