First time stopping at the Homer location. It was just as good as the other location. It is by the Homer Ice Rink so one of the few spots on the spit with actual parking. They have a few tables outside but was too windy for us. We ended up eating the food at the local brewery and paired perfectly together. View all feedback.
Smoky, tender, and delicious barbecue paired with a generous helping of warmth and friendliness. I've tried BBQ from various places, but I must say that BlackJaxx BBQ stands out with some truly excellent offerings. The three-meat plate featuring ribs, brisket, and pulled pork was quite hearty. The beans and coleslaw were also delightful. I highly recommend dining here when you’re in Homer!
I began with the ribs, and I have to say, they were the highlight of the meal. Cooked to perfection, they practically fell off the bone, and the fat was melt-in-your-mouth tender—something I’ve never experienced with ribs before. Next, I tried the sausage. While it was definitely tasty, it didn’t quite rank in my top five favorites. I personally prefer my sausage with a Cajun twist, but that shouldn’t discourage you; you won’t find anything this good in Alaska. I then moved on to the roll, which, while I would have preferred cornbread (because I love cornbread), was still really enjoyable. The brisket was up next, and I would rate it among the top ten I’ve ever had. The smoke flavor was fantastic; it was a taste far beyond anything available here in Alaska. Finally, I had the beans, which were made with either brisket or pork mixed in. This gave them a wonderful smoky flavor, and I was glad I opted for a double serving because they were definitely worth it. I am certain I will return here many more times, and I feel the prices are quite low for the quality of food. Based on what I’m used to in Texas, the meal was well worth the price. Next time, I plan to try the pork, bologna, and chicken, but I think I might just go for a half rack of ribs!
I visited the Homer location for the first time, and it was just as excellent as the other one. It's conveniently located by the Homer Ice Rink, making it one of the few places on the spit with actual parking available. They do have a few outdoor tables, but it was a bit too windy for us to sit outside. Instead, we took our food to the local brewery, where it paired perfectly with our drinks.
If I could, I would give this food truck six stars! The owner is exceptionally kind, and the barbecue is the best we’ve ever tasted. We've traveled extensively and dined at many restaurants, but this one truly stands out as our favorite. It has completely spoiled us for barbecue anywhere else. Judy, the owner, is the sweetest person and does a fantastic job of cooking while also handling phone calls and taking care of customers. We will definitely come back every time we visit Alaska!
Judy was fantastic! The brisket was delicious, and I really appreciated the convenience of the drive-up window. It's an outstanding place!
