This was our first time going to the Mini Jalapeño at Holden Beach. We?d heard good things, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived a little before 5pm and were seated immediately. Our orders were taken quickly and the food arrived fast. Our servers were attentive and quick to fix any mistakes (one of us received a sweet tea in which a tea bag had split, so he got a mouthful of tea leaves). The food was good, but... What Chris Getz doesn't like about Mini Jalapeno:
The tortilla chips and fajita wraps were stale, old or not made onsite. The server was somewhat unfriendly and didn't really seem to have the tableside charisma or passion for being a professional server. Now for the good: The main entrees were prepared excellent and were delicious. The employee that delivered the food to the table was really friendly and courteous. The dessert was out of this world. The food was good, but not the best thing I?ve ever had. I got the chicken with spinach, onions, mushrooms, rice, and beans. All in all, nothing super special but would eat here again if I was craving Mexican food on vacation.

Pretty tasty Mexican food and really good salsa! Was surprised that the house margaritas were $15
Last year's experience was perfect with takeout. This year's dine-in was a different story. Service was lacking attention as in we had to ask for silverware. Buy most irritating was the fact I ordered a margarita that I did not specifically request as top shelf. It was nothing special, lacked garnishes, was normal size and worst of all salted the rim with table salt. To add insult to injury, it cost 17.99 and the server didn't indicate I was about to be robbed on the price. Literally more expensive than the food I ordered. Every other restaurant in the area had normal expected drink prices. I drank 3 drinks at a fine much nicer restaurant for the same price as this one and they were made with fresh orange juice.
We went to this restaurant twice this week. The chips were not stale, very fresh, and the salsa was awesome. We had the supreme nachos, the steak and cheese nachos, the spinach quesadilla, kids cheese quesadilla and the fried ice cream. Everything was great! We didn't have margaritas but I did see them on other tables....they are huge! So maybe worth the price I see others posting about. The restaurant staff both times were great, very friendly, and attentive. This is also a very kid friendly restaurant with a kids menu. I highly recommend for families.
