Back Burner Tavern - Hockessin
Back Burner Tavern
Description
The restaurant offers a cozy ambiance and an attentive staff, but experiences vary significantly among diners. While some praised the exceptional service and delightful dishes like crab cakes and pumpkin mushroom soup, others encountered overcooked meats and stale bread, leading to disappointment. Service was hindered by understaffing, yet some servers, despite the chaos, stood out for their attentiveness. Overall, the restaurant has potential with a creative menu, but consistency in food quality and service is needed to ensure a satisfying dining experience for all guests. Regulars may return, but some diners are hesitant after their visits.

Nice place for all, family, dates or fun with friends. Cozy and friendly. My favorite staff member: Pat. Priced accordingly.
Back Burners is definitely a restaurant we would definitely go back to again and again!
I hesitate to write this, but it really bothered me. While the overall dining experience was great, my 'filet ' was anything but. I have consumed a lot of beef in my day, a lot! I ordered the 7 Oz filet. I can confidently say that I was not served a filet. My guess is it was a sirloin. No velvety texture of the meat, lots of tracking you find in a sirloin but never in a filet. Im sure this was an issue with packaging and not bait in switch on the restaurants part. We 've been here numerous times without any issues at all. I did not bring this up to the outstanding waiter last night, but in hind sight I probably should have. Still a great place to eat in Hockessin.
Always a wonderful time here. The food is fantastic and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable.
I don't know how this place is in business. The only thing I can think of, is that the real chef didn't show up to work, and a highschool student was cooking the food. First off they give you a cracker type of bread with a plate of dipping oil. Why??? You can't dip a cracker in a plate of oil. Just give some kind of soft roll... The chili was good, but one bowl had cheese and the other did not... My wife ordered the filet mignon well done. So anyone that knows how to cook steak understands that if someone wants a well done steak it has to be cut thin, so you don't have to cook it for 20 minutes. They brought out a completely dry thick cut of filet, and didn't use any butter to cook it. It tasted like dry, flavorless roast beef.... My son got grilled cheese. You have to use butter to make grilled cheese. His was like two pieces of dry toast with melted cheese... Really, you don't know how to make grilled cheese... Hopefully we went on a day that the real chef wasn't there. The food was amateur at best.
