I have frequented this drinking hole on many occasions and can report that it is what a small, intimate inner-city pub is all about. At night it comes alive with music and revelers letting their hair down. It attracts a variety of clientele, from white collar workers to bikers with tattooed faces. Drinks prices very reasonable. After waiting patiently for 40 minutes I asked politely how much longer as we needed to get back to work. After waiting the five minutes, we finally got our food. She plonked in on the bar (instead of bringing it to our table) with only three sets of cutlery when four were needed and yelled "here you go guys". Very rude way of treating customers. We totally understood that they seemed understaffed as there was only one lady cooking and also serving, but to take plates over to every other table except ours was very disrespectful when all we asked was how much longer.Never again!
There is nothing I can say to recommend this pub. As a group of four we decided to try the Vic Tav for a quick lunch. The guy behind the bar was shambolic, to say the least. He refused to accept our Entertainment Book voucher and then struggled to understand our very simple food orders - perhaps writing them down would have helped. One of our group advised him that she needed to be back at work by 1.45pm and he assured us that all would be fine. We placed our orders at 1.10pm and as a gesture of goodwill (for not accepting the EB voucher) he told us that our soft drink orders were on the house. That would have been ok, except for the fact that the soda water was completely flat.We waited for 25 minutes, and when no meals were forthcoming, the person who had to leave early asked for hers to be put into a takeaway container. After another 10 minutes she gave up and when, at 1.55pm the food arrived with completely the wrong orders, we gave up and asked for our money to be refunded - which it was, without question. There appeared to be only one person running the entire place and we noticed a couple of groups of people walk out after waiting too long for service. We will never consider going back to this place.
We were on a family holiday and popped in to the tavern after checking into the hotel next door. Our flights had been delayed and so we were looking for somewhere to have lunch at 3pm. As out first taste of Tasmania, this place was disappointing. The bar man had trouble taking our order as his till wasn't programmed with the menu so he to go and get pen and paper. We had to repeat the order (1 x Caesar salad and 2 x spicy chicken tenders) several times. Each meal cost $12 and he tried to charge us $24 when clearly 3 x $12 is $36 so we corrected him. Our beverage selection was limited because the bar taps weren't working (!!!) so we had to choose from bottles. Our lunch took more than half an hour to come and in the meantime the pub filled with the smell and smoke from the kitchen. I think an oily pan had begun to smoke and this was confirmed when the chicken tenders arrived as they tasted smoky. The Caesar salad was good as were the chips. I wanted to like this place but they appeared to have never served a pub meal before! To top it off was a drunk who kept pestering the bar man and wandering around the place.
