We stopped at this restaurant for lunch and had a great experience. The menu is in English, but the owners do not speak English. We arrived a little early for lunch (they start serving at 11:30), but another customer helped us with translations. We enjoyed our satisfying meal and also browsed the vegetarian shop for an easy dinner at the hostel.
Although not entirely vegan or vegetarian, this restaurant always serves 100% vegan lunches. The attention to detail in preparing each dish in their vegan lunch plates is evident, with a wonderful mix of textures and flavors. The curry lunch plate is a great option for those with a big appetite. The prices are very reasonable and they are one of the few places that offer a vegan bento for takeout.
I found this restaurant a bit misleading as I initially thought the sit-down food menu was entirely vegan. However, despite the big vegan sign outside, I discovered that they also serve meat, fish, and dishes containing egg and milk. I ended up ordering a vegan croquette and some vegan bread, as there weren't many other options available. The refrigerator had some small vegan sides, but I was disappointed to find out that the quiches were not vegan.
When we arrived at 3:30pm we were too late for their lunch meal, but still they were so nice to make us fresh vegan bento boxes! Very friendly staff and good food!
I longed for a healthy vegan menu after having had vegan Okonomiyaki the previous day and found everything I wished for at Croissant Marché. The dine-in area is small but I didn't have to wait for a seat when popping in around 13:00. The bentos and the desserts for dining in had already sold out by that time, though. I opted for the vegan set menu with five vegetable sides nad no dessert that comes at 1.000 ¥ plus tax, i.e. 1.100 ¥ in total. The food was very good. The soup had a round and rich umami flavour. The brown rice with some adzuki beans was so sticky that even someone with little chopstick skills should easily be able to eat it. The veggie selection came with a little pot of ground sesame that I could add to my liking, and it perfectly fit the little salad on the top left. I am not a big fan of mock meat in vegan meals, so I was a bit irritated by two of the five items on the veggie plate looking like mock meat. The taste then was better than expected and not as meaty as I had feared, but I would have preferred less processed vegetable dishes instead. The content of the veggie plate obviously changes with the season, so you might happen to get one without mock meat. I browsed the little shop after my meal. It has a great variety of vegan products that you can grab for eating in your accommodation in case you have access to a kitchen or at least a microwave and a kettle. I bought an Iburigakko (smoked pickled radish) that I had with some bread from Andersen's later and it was delicious!
