Everything about this historic Inn built in 1759 was beyond perfect! From the extremely clean rooms to the modern classic decor to the gold hardware finishes was perfection! The room was appointed with an awesome steamer rather than an iron, sound machine, GREAT hair dryer, and incredible fresh baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast! We will be back for sure! This is a quaint place to stay in an area that is rich in our nation's history. Also, the cinnamon rolls are incredibly fresh and delicious! Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
Nice place, clean rooms, good and friendly service. Parking is not so good. You have to park on the street and there aren’t many spots. Walls are thin Rooms: Walls are a bit thin. We could hear the next door room talking Walkability: Easy, 1-block, walk to the tiny downtown. There are a few good restaurants Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 4
On a beautiful October Saturday afternoon, my wife and I had lunch on the front porch of the historic Colonial Inn. It was very nice. It wasn’t crowded. The food was good. The service was good and we enjoyed a quiet outdoor lunch. They looked very busy because they were having a wedding there that afternoon. Everything looked very clean and neat and organized. There’s two outdoor areas on the front porch where we sat and ate and you can watch people walk by and cars go by. There is also about five or six tables behind the main building in between buildings that’s outdoors that have umbrellas. Also seating inside and a bar.
This is a review for the Sunday brunch, and not the inn itself. Service was good, staff and staff was friendly and attentive. The pancakes were good, large, served with fruit and whipped cream. The space is very nice, and I imagine that the hotel itself is charming the location is central to downtown Hillsborough, which I imagine is convenient to guests. The food itself was generally under seasoned and under salted. The shrimp in the shrimp and grits were cooked perfectly; however, the sauce was rich but bland. The grits were not particularly flavorful, and the sauce didn 't help very much. My wife says the biscuits tasted as though they 'd been prepared the day before and reheated. I 'm not sure I understood the 'hashbrowns ', which were pale potatoes with a strong taste of onions in a yellow sauce covered with melted cheese. These are all fixable issues, and it 's possible that the menu is aimed towards people who are concerned about their sodium intake.
