Stopped here before attending a show at the Driftless Music Garden for a cold drink. I knew when I pulled open the screen door that it was the real McCoy. Original 1914 penny tiles, tin roof, mainly lit with the streaming daylight—if you don’t count the 1940 fluorescents. I stopped by this charming place for a cold drink before heading to a show at the Driftless Music Garden, and I knew right away I was in for a treat when I opened the screen door. The bar has an authentic atmosphere with original penny tiles from 1914 and a tin roof, lit mainly by natural daylight, although the 1940s fluorescent lights also add to its character. There are no modern updates here—it’s perfect as is. If you're in the area, it's worth visiting to support the owner, as this bar has been in his family since the early 1900s. A cold Jack Coke was just what I needed on a hot August day, but if you're looking for something non-alcoholic, it's a great spot to enjoy a Coca-Cola. While I was there, I caught an episode of Andy Griffith on TV. They offer $1 pull tabs, pool, and it's family-friendly if you have kids with you. Plus, it's only a five-minute drive from the music venue!
The staff here is friendly, and the prices for drinks and food are reasonable. They have a pool table and a shuffleboard table for some extra fun. The owner frequently organizes small events, customer appreciation days, and live music performances. Definitely worth a visit!
