Alpine Inn - Hill City
Alpine Inn
Description
Nestled in the scenic Black Hills, the Alpine Inn presents a unique dining concept with a strict focus on filet mignon. Despite the long wait times and dimly lit ambiance, many patrons rave about the quality and value of the steak, available in generous portions at an affordable price. The wedge salad dressed with house-made ranch dressing also gains praise. Service can be hit or miss, with reports of rude staff contrasting with accounts of attentive service. Notably, guests should be prepared to pay in cash, as credit cards aren’t accepted. An authentic experience awaits, but diners may need to temper expectations.

I have always loved this place! Food is consistently good. I love their ranch dressing and that's saying a lot because I don't typically like ranch (so not Midwestern of me, I know). Highly recommend.
The restaurant was very dark as if they were trying to hide things. The wait time was fairly long for single item menu which I will return in a bit. Nearly a hour wait to be seated for half empty restaurant. There was no menu because for this evening, they only served filet mignon and I think I 've heard some sort of dumpling maybe. They served this delicate cut of meat in 6 or9oz sizes for $13 bucks. It was not filet mignon and every guests whom knows this cut of meat stated the same. That being said,it was delicious for what it was. They 're version of salad was uncut lettuce covered in mayo. The waitress was rude and neveroffered napkins with our meals and clearly didn 't like when I said no menu in a restaurant? the place was charming and thefood we had was good other than my daughter swallowed a piece of plastic from her meal. I didn 't take pictures of food as Iusually do in my reviews because how dark the dining room was and didn 't want to disturb other guests. I couldn 't leave tipbecause if I have to pour my own water, use my sleeves as napkins and rude behavior from a waitress, I 'll keep my hard earnedmoney for me. I leave between 20-200% tip but never have I ever left a restaurant without tipping a server. I 'll leave one tiphere for the blond server with very very heavy makeup. Be kind to guests please. Your paycheck and business depends on it.Especially for a tourist town.
The food here was great and the service was excellent. They let us in after the lunch rush and didn't rush us out the door even though they were clearly preparing for dinner service. Fairly authentic German food and overall a great experience.
Great place to stay with comfortable rooms and amazing food! Beautiful place to relax after a long day of adventuring! (Only taking off a star on location because the outside stairs to get into the inn part of the Alpine Inn are pretty steep and coulddefinitely be risky if icy. No problems for us whatsoever, but if you 're not good with a lot of stairs then this might not beyour best option.
This was well worth the wait on a busy weekend. The filet was perfectly tender and delicious! The brownie and ice cream dessert finished a perfect meal. Loved the style inside, like an old world elegance, but still welcoming to travelers and park wearyguests. Service was excellent also. Best filet we can remember!
