Description

Tucked into the eastern shore of Loch Leven, The Bothy is a cosy lochside bar where mountain views meet generous, flavour-forward plates. Expect honest comfort food — from classic fish-and-chips and scampi to inventive veggie tacos and tempting puddings — served by a welcoming team that loves dogs, families and hikers just as much as locals. The setting steals the show: glass and terrace framing the water and peaks beyond, perfect for a warming meal after a walk or a relaxed evening with friends. Drop in for robust flavours, hearty portions and the kind of genuine Highland hospitality that makes The Bothy feel like a home away from home.

While hiking the West Highland Way with my girlfriend, I mistakenly bought the wrong gas canister at Tyndrum. This rookie mistake meant that we would have to eat cold food for the next 2/3 days, which was a devastating realization. I needed to find a restaurant where we could enjoy a hot meal.

After completing a ten-mile walk, we enjoyed a meal at this restaurant. The drinks were ice-cold and the menu had a decent selection. We decided to order the veggie burger with fries, which was delicious with its sauce and pickles, as well as the salmon and guacamole tacos - three of them with plenty of dips.

The Bothy Bar has a lot to offer. The stunning view of the lake is both eye-catching and beautiful. I know this because I spent 30 minutes admiring it while waiting for my drink. Those sitting outside were separated from the inside patrons...

Food and waitresses were amazing. Dog friendly was a bonus. HOWEVER the wheelchair access was rediculous, the man at the bar was very rude and spoke down to us as I was taking my gran (in a wheelchair) to the toilet she forgot her mask outside and he was raising his voice to us saying “it will be you that gets charged £1000 not us” I explained it was a MISTAKE that everyone does! He changed his tone after I changed mine. Absolutely rediculous the way he spoke down to us. One of the lovely waitresses asked my gran if she would like her to get her a mask. But the man behind the bar expected me to go all the way back outside when I struggled even getting her though the doorways. There was just no need for the attitude and the rudeness he spoke to her over a mistake. People will forget things, he will make mistakes in his life. Don’t jump down someone’s throat.
