Nestled in Portree, the Merchant Bar presents a mix of experiences that leave patrons with mixed feelings. While some rave about its cozy atmosphere, quality drinks, and friendly staff, others express disappointment over high prices and inconsistent cleanliness. The bar's a la carte dining may cater to upscale tastes, but not all visitors find it appealing. Recommendations highlight its warmth and charm, particularly in the evenings, while others caution potential diners to check for reservations. Overall, Merchant Bar strikes a balance between casual and classy, making it a potential favorite for locals and tourists alike.

First visit to this bar in Portree. Cosy, decent beer, great staff. What more do people want from a pub? We’ve moved to Skye recently and this will become a regular pub to visit without doubt. Deserves to be better supported by the locals as it was quiet on. Saturday evening. Use it or lose it is my opinion. Great place. Will be back.
We loved this pub while staying in Portree! Came here multiple times since we were staying at the attached hotel but probably would have even if we weren't staying upstairs. Very cozy and great wine/beer/cocktail selection. Excellent service. Great place to spend your evening after dinner.
During my stay in Portree, Merchant Bar quickly became my favorite spot to unwind. The atmosphere is relaxed yet classy, with a cozy log burner adding to the comfort. The bar offers a fantastic selection of ales and spirits, and the music varies from soulful 60s tunes to contemporary pop-rock hits. The bartender is friendly and always up for a chat. The prices are reasonable, making it a great place to enjoy a night out.
The bar is ok, but not my personal favorite in Portree. The bar is very cool, but for the rest the interior looks built for tourists. The staff is friendly, but the atmosphere can be better. This is fine, but not a must visit.
