a great lunch as we drove from moray to the south. it is important if we travel as family (2 adult, children's dog(s) that we can combine a walk and eat. very welcoming, designated dog/no dog area and faster service. we have nachos (foto,) kinder pizzachips and fish 'n' chips. the nachos were excellent and probably a decent starter for 2 people. the fishbatter was light and tasty and the stone pizza was great for the... What Julia D doesn't like about Mackenzies Highland Inn:
The only positive aspect of the restaurant was the awesome female server. However, the overall experience was average. The harsh lighting and odd furniture were off-putting, and the drink selection was basic. Additionally, the bathroom stalls were broken and missing paper products. My expectations were low, as I had read similar reviews on both this platform and Google. View all feedback.
We weren't expecting much when we arrived at Mackenzies, as it had a laid-back vibe with relaxed staff, diverse music, and a pub-like atmosphere. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the food and unanimously declared it one of the best meals we had during our trip last week. We recommend trying the chorizo Mac n cheese or the sausage special - both were delicious comfort dishes, perfect on a cool night in the Highlands.
This is the place place in Aviemore for craft beer and real ales. They also serve draft real cider too. You can play pool and darts in a friendly environment.
While passing through, we just needed a place to stay for the night that wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg. We booked on laterooms.com and got the room for £50 and for that price, what we got was okay. The owner was extremely friendly and eager to please. The place is currently being renovated under this new owner, so many of the reviews on other sites don't really apply anymore. The rooms are small, but have everything you need: bed, desk, wardrobe, electric kettle, plenty of tea and coffee, 2 kinds of biscuits, wifi, radiator, ensuite, extra blankets. We didn't hear any noise from the karaoke at night, but the noise in the morning from the other patrons made it impossible to sleep past 9:00. I can't comment on the breakfast, since we didn't make it down in time to have it, but it's served until 9:30. All in all, it was a decent place to stay, but I don't know that I'd pay the full rack rate as it is. Maybe once the renovations are complete, it'd be a different story. As it is, don't expect anything fancy. What you'll get is a room for the night, and if you're in a social mood, the bar downstairs is pretty lively.
The exterior of MacKenzie's Highland Inn is attractive and appealing. Unfortunately, our experience inside was not as pleasant. Upon arrival, we were asked to pay £200 upfront for our three-night stay without receiving a receipt. The staff were unfriendly and unwelcoming, and the hotel was cold. Our room had various issues, such as a broken lock on the door, dirty carpets, and poorly maintained amenities. The breakfast was disappointing, but the porridge and stuffed croissant were highlights. The Wi-Fi did not work in the rooms, and the prices for drinks were expensive. Overall, our stay at MacKenzie's Highland Inn left much to be desired.
