We had a booking at the Victory, but their cooker was broken (but they hadn’t bothered to ring us But their bar maid kindly booked us a table at the Volunteer pub. What a superb lunch. I cannot remember having a better Sunday lunch. Highly recommended we’ll go back to the Volunteer for sure. Thank you to their team! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Volunteer:
We went to this restaurant for lunch, as it was the only one open on Sundays. Upon arrival, we noticed two women exiting the same bathroom with runny noses, possibly due to hay fever. This was quite unusual. Additionally, our meals were served half-frozen and had to be sent back. The place had a sketchy vibe and served low-quality alcohol. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. View all feedback.
My family and I had a wonderful Sunday lunch at this restaurant last week. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared (not your typical carvery!). The pork and beef options were both cooked perfectly and tender. The sides were thoughtful and delectable, including sticky red cabbage, garlic and rosemary roast potatoes, mashed carrot and swede, honey glazed carrots, and cauliflower cheese. The gravy was also a highlight. They offer a vegetarian option and a dessert menu as well. The service was fast and friendly, so much so that we are returning today! We also noticed they have a food menu available Wednesday through Saturday.
We were thrilled to see that The Volunteer has reopened with new owners. We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch with all the fixings today. The meat was tender, the presentation and service were excellent, and it was a great value. We are excited to try their weekday menu as well and plan to dine there frequently.
