We came here after listening to our b and b hostess and we weren't disappointed. It may look a little faded on the outside but the barman was lovely. The chef produced a cracking fish pie and lamb hotpot. The beer on tap was also well received. This was the time to try my 4th sticky toffee pudding. View all feedback.
What paulsolo1 doesn't like about Oxford Arms:
saw the reviews and only around twenty miles away so we decided to give Sunday lunch a try. Tired looking restaurant and not really inviting but the staff are very friendly and attentive. Food was good but average. Cheap eat if you are passing by View all feedback.
I booked for one night 's B&B and their on line booking system works really well. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, the shower worked fine and a kettle and teas/coffee biscuits were provided. My room had no TV, but others do, so if you want one check before you book. An excellent English breakfast. You could probably spend a fortune on redecoration Hotel Inspector style, but then the prices would have to go up. So, their market is more Offa 's Dyke walkers and tradesman working away, and not people expecting a middle class Premier Inn. If want to pay twice the price or more for a posh hotel, there is one at the other end of town. Fred is most congenial host and is eager to please.. I was so tried after walking in very hot weather, I did not use the pub and had an early night
Visited this establishment on Tuesday I’ve visited once before so I opted for a bottled beer. It was a good decision the carling has that rotten egg smell. There was no Guinness and the cask ale was hazey. The cleanliness of the whole building is a lot to be desired especially during these uncertain time’s however I was more worried about catching other diseases from the toilet area !!!! If that’s the state of the bar and toilets what is the kitchen like. Visit the burton hotel or the oak both taking Covid seriously.
If you visit Kington and are in need of a drink or meal in an authentic venue, then this is certainly one of the places to go to. Always a warm welcome and a pint and meal to your liking. We've been there many times and hope for for many returns.
Did not stay so cannot comment on rooms or facilities. Appears to be a very popular venue with walkers and locals.
We love this place! Popped in for a quick meal after a full day's walking, and liked it so much we went back for the full 3 courses on our last night. While the Oxford Arms is a proper locals' pub, it treats holidaymakers like locals as well a fine art, and one that a lot of places don't manage. The food was great and reasonably priced. I had a really good fish pie on our first visit, and I'd recommend the Sticky Ginger Pudding if it's available really light sponge and little chunks of ginger throughout. Served with custard, it was delicious. We would certainly eat here again if we are in the area. This is a great pub and deserves to do well go!
