Very good family meal Beautiful presentation Friendly and efficient staff
We stopped off at this restaurant on Boxing Day for lunch as we were heading to Germany to visit friends. We showed up after 1:30 for lunch, which is usually when a lot of small town restaurants stop serving. When we called, we heard a lot of noise and they said they would serve us as long as we arrived quickly. There's parking out front, which is quite handy. When we entered, we saw that the room was dark and empty. Behind the bar were two older women. They asked if it was us who had called. Affirmative. We took a deep breath as we didn't know what to expect. We were led to a room in the back. It was a big room with almost every table filled. Obviously the people eating there were all local except us. We saw a lot of families. But no one stared at us. We were actually greeted with warm smiles. We had the option to order the Christmas menu or a la carte. We opted for the Christmas menu at €39.50 each, which included an amuse bouche, starter, main course and dessert. The food was excellent. The meat was cooked perfectly and tender. The sauces were heavenly. We especially liked the langoustine sauce and are still dreaming about it. All dishes were prepared with fresh ingredients and you can tell that the Chef puts his heart into making each dish. Actually, he came around towards the end of the meal and shook hands with the gentlemen and gave kisses on the cheeks to the ladies. It was a nice touch. The restaurant is owned and run by a family who cares about serving quality food and ensuring that customers enjoy their dining experience. We wanted to stop off for a quick lunch. In the end, we decided to enjoy the journey and not just get over to the destination. We really enjoyed our meal. The Christmas menu with a bottle of sparkling water and 2 expressos came to about €90. Well worth the price and it was a meal comparable to if not better than any top knotch restaurant in Paris but with much better service!
Hidden behind what appears to be a dreary small town cafe-bar is a treasure of a family run restaurant with seating for more than 50. The three course lunch for 13 Euro cannot be beaten. There is a choice from 5 or 6 starters and the same number of main courses. The desert trolley usually has 3 or 4 selections available. The decor is bright and cheerful, and the staff could not be more helpful. We were even gifted with an English-French dictionary of culinary terms so we could make menu selections based on knowledge rather than random means. The cuisine is French Country style, and the main customer base is the management of the nearby industries. Ladies should be aware that the Chef will introduce himself to all his customers with the traditional two cheek kisses. We travel regularly between the UK and Switzerland by car, and Henriville is ideally situated for lunch on both the outward and return visits. On one occasion we arrived at 1:30 pm on a Sunday to discover the restaurant completely full, but a corner on one table was found for us, and as is usual in France, the meal was special.
