Was The Stewarts at Shell a mag?
This is a wonderful place to stop for gas. The store is charming, and the friendly staff greet you as you walk in. The bathrooms are clean, and there are fantastic snack and food options available. There's also an adorable "I Love BBQ" sign and big dinosaur sculptures for fun photo opportunities. If you need to charge your Tesla, there are plenty of charging stations too. What Jonathan Ward dislikes about Shell:
Fantastic spot! However, the BBQ didn’t meet my expectations. I initially went in to buy a cinnamon roll, but the older employee working at the time was emptying a small trash can into a bigger one. Once she finished, she tried to serve me without washing her hands. That was really off-putting, especially knowing that her hands had just been all over the trash. I don’t think I'll be dining here again. View all feedback.

Never getting food from them again. Waste of money. Sold me very undercooked meat..
OK folks here we go. I ordered a dinner plate with three meats and it comes with a drink $23.80 The food was OK but extremely cold. Any thing that you order in this restaurant it's cold, I was going to get up and ask the guy if he could put my plate in the microwave oven and heat it up or you can take it back to your truck and heat it up, Live and learn.
During our long highway trip, we discovered this place when we needed to refuel. I was initially hesitant after reading some reviews, but we decided to stop for convenience—and I’m so glad we did! We were not disappointed at all. It’s a quick stop with ample seating and a steady stream of customers, which is always a good sign. We ordered a two-meat BBQ plate to share, and there was more than enough for both of us. We were filled up and back on the road in no time! BBQ definitely beats a burger any day!
As I approached the smokehouse, I was immediately put off by the numerous flies hovering around the food displays. Although the meat was properly covered, the persistent flies made it difficult to enjoy the meal. Because of this, I chose to skip the sides, despite them being served cold as intended, as the presence of the flies left me feeling quite uncomfortable. When it came to the main course, I found the food to be below the expectations set by its name. The barbecue, while not terrible, did not measure up to what one would expect from a Texas establishment. The flavors were quite bland, and the meat lacked the authentic smoky taste that is typically associated with Texas barbecue. Overall, the food quality was disappointing and left me wanting more. On a positive note, the employee at the smokehouse was friendly and helpful. They were quick to answer my questions and provided attentive service, which somewhat eased the experience despite the unsatisfactory dining conditions. However, the presence of flies and the subpar taste of the barbecue overshadowed the positive aspects. While being situated next to a gas station may make it a convenient option for travelers, the lackluster food and cleanliness issues leave a lot to be desired. In conclusion, my visit to Texas Best Smokehouse was a mixed experience. The flies around the food and the mediocre barbecue significantly impacted my enjoyment. Although I appreciated the helpfulness of the staff, it wasn't enough to compensate for the overall shortcomings. If the cleanliness and food quality could be improved, Texas Best Smokehouse might have the potential to truly live up to its name. As it is now, however, I wouldn't recommend it as a top choice for authentic Texas barbecue.

Great place to stop for fuel. Very clean with a large selection of food and knickknacks to choose from. The restrooms were very clean and in excellent condition.
Flys EVERYWHERE in the bathrooms! Also the bathrooms tend to be out of paper products. Steak N Shake is new but you’ll see why the food establishments have come and gone here.

The BBQ restaurant was a major letdown. The meat, including the ribs and brisket, lacked any noticeable smoked flavor, and the side dishes were quite disappointing as well. We had driven past this place multiple times but finally decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it was just a one-time experience.
