Very welcoming place! Food was good, but the atmosphere took the cake!
The food was ok. It’s like another said Sysco delivered frozen food prepared in a greasy kitchen. The waitress was superb. The service fantastic. The prices are adequate. The time it took to get food was 55 minutes. We arrived at 10:20 and didn’t leave til after noon. For fried and prepared food I feel like that’s entirely too long. The biscuits and gravy was cold. The other negative I have is that the entire restaurant is filthy! This is not dirt from a day or two, I mean filthy. Water spot on ceiling, the floors need cleaned. The floor between floor and walls are caked in dirt. One of the waitresses was wearing white crocs that were brown from filth. Very unpleasant. The kitchen was behind doors and I can’t imagine it back there. Would I return? No. I know this is a huge spot to go to in Henderson but I really don’t get the hype.
The three of us have been traveling for hours. It was getting late in the day. All we wanted was a good home-cooked meal. And to our delight, that's exactly what we got! When we arrived, we were greeted on the outside of the restaurant by a picture on the window of the Cross of Christ at the Eastgate in Jerusalem. What a statement! On the door leading in, were the American flag and military insignias. As Christians, and I am a member of a 5 generation military family I knew at once we were in the right place. We didn't realize they were in their last 30 minutes before close. But when we came through the door the owner himself greeted us and showed us to our table as if we were there at the beginning of his day. The food was fine homey-cooking! The atmosphere was sweet. There was no rush for us to leave as there were several tables with folks not ready to head home either. What a wonderful pearl of great price to find on the road. I would highly recommend them and if you are on the road you might want to stop by for a fine meal too.
Literally ate here today for the first time in over 30 years! New ownership. Clean. Could use some down home type decorations. Anyway, food was good. Companion had club sandwich, I had pork tenderloin. Club was good. Tenderloin was pretty basic Sysco type frozen tenderloin but wasn 't bad. Chocolate pie was homemade and excellent. Next time can 't wait to try breakfast. Way back when, breakfast was THE thing Eastgate Restaurant was known for. That and the all you can eat fish on Friday nights. UPDATE: Ate here again on a Wednesday night. Spaghetti was on special and was very tasty (with meat sauce). It came with garlic bread (homemade but tasted a bit off) and 2 other sides (I got a cup of soup and bowl of fruit from salad bar). Oddly enough a side salad is not one of the sides options (at least not without paying an extra $2 or so just for the salad). All in all, still a tasty dinner and a solid option in Henderson. UPDATE 2: Decided to try again this evening and got same spaghetti special since it was Wednesday. The good: Had soup from salad bar first. Good. Spaghetti was tasty. The bad: Blondish/brown hair from cook was on my garlic bread (pretty obvious where it came from... hair nets should be mandatory as baseball caps and bandanas don 't cut it). The soups looked a little stiff (at 6:15pm) and just a suggestion on salad bar placement; putting it in front of the window with the setting sun is a fly magnet. If it were me, I 'd put it against the wall in the right side room (right if you 're sitting at the bar). No direct sunlight, no windows, fewer flies. Just place tables back across the front where salad bar is now. Lastly, the spaghetti was a small serving, served in a bowl. Would I go again? Yes, I 'll try again in a couple of months to see if any change. If no changes I might be out, unfortunately.
I love this restaurant it is my favorite place for breakfast and lunch.
