We just wanted to try it all, so ordered it anyway :)Whole meal cost $55.BYO drinks: NO corkage fee.We will certainly be back!
Authentic flavours, cooking and so fresh. A local restaurant with local prices. Zafir is a maestro in the kitchen. I've been back!
I've had many curries over the years at some highly regarded Indian restaurants, and this place is right up there with the best of them. The lamb shank vindaloo was superb. You know when you deconstruct a shank and eat everything except the bones, including those pieces of gristle/cartilage that are normally obnoxiously tough, that the meal has been cooked for a long time. Beautifully spiced, not too hot- pretty much a perfect vindaloo. We also had the samosa which were large and delicious, some lamb skewers, assorted breads and some raita. All were excellent.
If you love authentic Afghani/Indian food, then this unpretentious, small restaurant on Glynburn Road will not disappoint; in fact the food is outstanding. We ordered Lamb Kebabs cooked in the Tandoor, plus Manto (steamed, spicy vegetable dumplings), Dahl Makhani and plain Naan and the serves were extremely generous, beautifully presented and quite delicious. The lamb was very tender and served on a huge mound of extra long grain Basmati rice, with what we believe were dried pomegranate seeds stirred through. It was also accompanied by a very fresh, side salad and the traditional yoghurt and mint dipping sauces. The Manto dumplings, Dahl and Naan were all equally just as scrumptious and having travelled extensively in both India and Afghanistan we agreed that the Dahl Makhani and Naan were the best we've eaten outside these countries. The restaurant only does BYO at no corkage charge (which is very generous) but they do make heavenly Lassi's and serve a range of other non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks. Takeaway is also an option and the prices are very reasonable.
