However, I was extremely disappointed! If you’ve ever eaten on Mott Street, you’ll know there is no comparison. Shanghai 21 in Chinatown is the real deal—this place does not measure up. The dumplings had an overpowering floral taste and were soggy both inside and out from being boiled instead of steamed. Even the pan-fried ones were disappointing! The salt content was excessively high. We ordered soup dumplings, beef, pork, veggie, and chicken dim sum, but none of them were good. I ended up wrapping everything up and throwing it away. We are very disappointed, but if you want genuine dim sum, head to NYC!

I've been looking for a place that serves soup dumplings and pork buns like my favorite spots in Chinatown, and i think this is it! First of all, the place is huge inside! We ordered pork buns, the Bao Sampler of dumplings, and pork and crab soup dumplings. All of them were hot, fresh, and delicious! I also got a Bao Signature Tea, which was excellent, too. I'll definitely be back...if they only had scallion pancakes, then it would be the perfect spot!
