Tall Pines Resort - Hayward

Let’s start with the positives: the cabins were clean, and there was convenient access to the lake with docks for boats. The area is great for walking, very safe and quiet, and it’s just a short distance from downtown Hayward. Cabin 5 featured a lovely screened-in porch, and having air conditioning was a nice touch. We also enjoyed fishing on the lake, although we had to venture out of the bay for the best spots. On the downside, the term "resort" feels a bit misleading, as there are very few amenities. There’s no swimming beach, the lodge is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays, and boat rentals weren’t available on-site as advertised in the brochure. Many kitchen tools were missing in the cabins, and while we were informed that bedding was provided, we only received sheets, necessitating that we bring our own pillows and blankets. After checking in, it felt like we were on our own; the property managers didn’t seem accessible or available for questions or assistance after hours. Also, don’t expect reliable cell service during your stay. We made the best of our time there, and overall, it was a decent place to stay, but I felt a bit misled and wish we had asked more questions or had more information about what to expect.

Don’t miss out on their amazing fried chicken, which I believe is available any time. I'm so glad I found this little gem on Nelson Lake! I'm looking forward to trying their Friday fish fry the next time I'm in the area. You need to check this place out... right now! The kitchen is open Wednesday through Sunday, and they have Happy Hour from 3 to 6. That's all!

Mike and Angie are the owners of Tall Pines Resort, where Mike cooks up delicious meals and Angie serves up fantastic drinks. This cozy restaurant is all about hospitality—it truly feels like home! Every time we walk through the door, Angie greets us by our first names, which makes the experience even more special. While the menu isn't extensive, every dish is exceptional. We've brought friends and family with us, and they always want to come back. The drinks are excellent, and you really get your money's worth! I highly recommend giving it a try; you won't be disappointed!
