Tasty fish and chips. Stopped here and ordered takeaway fish and chips and scampi and chips, great chips and really nice scampi. Not expensive and friendly team. View all feedback.
What TRACEY A doesn't like about Mother Kelly's:
I visited this takeout for the first time tonight after considering it for a long time. I ordered haddock and chips and was told by the chef that it would take about 10 minutes to cook. After being surprised by the high price of nearly £10, I paid with my card. We reside in Emsworth and enjoy Mother Kelly's fish and chips at least once a month. The batter is consistently excellent, the fish well-cooked, and the chips always fresh. The service is top-notch, with limited capacity and protective barriers in place for COVID safety measures.
I visited this takeout for the first time tonight after considering it for a long time. I ordered haddock and chips and was told by the chef that it would take about 10 minutes to cook. After being surprised by the high price of nearly £10, I paid with my card. When I got my meal and went to eat it in the carpark, I was disappointed to see that the chips were on top of the fish, breaking up the batter. The chips were barely warm and I found a long dark hair in them, which was very off-putting. I ended up throwing the meal away, which I was not happy about.
We went to Mother Kelly's restaurant tonight, expecting a high quality takeaway based on some of the reviews we had read. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the limited menu options, as several items we wanted were unavailable due to being 'sold out'. The fish was average and the large portion of chips did not make up for the mediocre service. When we inquired about whether the burger came with salad or sauce, we were informed that only sachets were available. The lack of gravy or curry sauce, which are essential for a traditional fish and chip shop, was also disappointing. It seemed like even minimal preparation was too much for the staff, who were hardly busy. We probably will not be returning in the future.
I visit this area several times a year, and this is our favourite fish and chips. The batter is always crisp even once we get it home. Portions are good. Definaterly worth the occasional queuing on Friday night
This is one of the south's best fish and chips and plenty of other things! shops. The food here is first class every time and we've been many, many times. I'm not sure how they cook their fish but its always fresh tasting and delicious. And I love the way they put the foot in containers meaning its still hot by the time you get it home. And the mushy peas are to die for ! Not only that the staff are always lovely and friendly and extremely chatty ! Try it and HOW !!!!
