Nestled within the hustle of Hartlepool’s train station, this café elicits mixed feelings among its visitors. While some rave about the breakfast offerings, highlighting fresh ingredients and prompt service, others have raised concerns over the quality of certain dishes, particularly the sausages, which many describe as subpar. Inconsistent service hours and a cramped atmosphere when crowded pose additional challenges. Despite the complaints, the warmth of the staff and competitive pricing keep the café in good standing for those seeking a hearty meal. Breakfast lovers may find it worth a visit, but be prepared for varying experiences.

How many times have I caught a train from here. I am usually armed with my McDonalds or Subway but had run out of time. I darted in-and 3 toasties and a chicken curry arrived in 10 minutes for under £14. Excellent value for money and, when we got on board found 5he taste was excellent as well. Memories of old BR cafes long forgotten. This may be like a ‘greasy spoon’ but it is a very good one indeed- and to think I h... View all feedback.
What thepouletb dislikes about Trainstop Cafe:
The restaurant had poor quality food that was overpriced. The ingredients, especially the sausage, were of low quality. Everything seemed to be cooked in a deep fryer, including mushrooms, sausage, and black pudding. The food was greasy, even the toast tasted freezer burnt. The bacon was overly salty. On a positive note, the service from the friendly lady was good. View all feedback.
Delicious and great value lunch of chicken curry and corned beef pie followed by cake and custard. Great friendly service as always
Popped in on the off chance of getting served, luckily for us there was a train strike. Pleasantly surprised with the interior, roomy and clean with friendly staff. Varied menu for the hungry Horace’s and the lightweights. The lady front of house was very obliging offering to swap one of the breakfast items for an alternative. Only a short wait for delivery of our ‘Railway’ breakfast. It was delicious. Had a quick chat with the lady who cooked it, who was obviously passionate about working in the cafe.

This place has always served me well and saved my life a few times on a Saturday with a hang over from hell...
After looking for a change for breakfast we decided on trying the Trainstop. Arrived about 8.30 to find it quite busy but we got a table. Ordered at the counter (3 large breakfasts and coffee's). Arrived quite quickly and the food was very nice and well cooked with nice ingredients. Very nice and we will be back, thanks.
