Description

Ideal Fish Bar continues to evoke strong feelings among its patrons. While some customers lament recent price hikes, long wait times, and a perceived decline in food quality, others praise its consistently delicious fish and chips, highlighting friendly service and the freshness of the meals. Though criticisms of soggy chips and poor treatment of walk-in customers are noted, many loyal diners maintain that it remains one of the top fish and chip shops in the area, emphasizing the worth of the wait and the vibrant flavors that keep them coming back for more.

This fish and chip shop is absolutely fantastic. The staff are always polite and friendly, even when they are very busy. The fish and chips here are the best I have ever had. I have been coming here for over 20 years and have tried other places, but I always end up coming back here. No other place compares!

Always get a smile and fabulous service at Ideal fish bar! The fish, chips and sausages all cooked fresh to order and are excellent. Pick up an order regularly now and would recommend it!

Huge mark up on prices for delivery via Uber eats. A £23 meal cost £34 ! They added £4 to each piece of fish and £1 added to price of chips. Plus a service charge of £2.50 and a delivery charge of 79p so the Uber person gets very little of that huge price!

Let me put it plainly: this place has gone completely down the drain. Once upon a time, you could rely on Ideal Fish Bar for a proper meal—a golden, crunchy bit of fish with chips that didn’t look like they’d been dragged through a rainstorm. But those days are gone, and what’s left is a sad excuse for a chippy that clings to its former reputation like a moth to a streetlight—pathetic, confused, and ultimately doomed. The food? Dire. The fish is DRY. DRY to the point of requiring dental insurance. The chips arrive looking like they’ve just come back from war—pale, floppy, and traumatised. And don’t get me started on the oil—it clearly hasn’t seen a fresh batch in weeks. There’s a greasy aftertaste that lingers like a bad decision. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to taste disappointment, go ahead and try the haddock. Price per person: £70–80 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
