Contribute FeedbackOn Friday night we had booked an evening tour. The guide dressed as a Franciscan monk ordered the participants to the restaurant “Alt Hamm”. With “Honorius Hellweg”, guests will explore the traces of the history of the city in the eastern city centre: Sacred buildings – Profanbauten – Stadtgeschichte – Anekdoten, stand in the brochure. Because we didn’t know Hamm before, we had already practiced the way to the meeting point in the afternoon. The description we received in the tourist information “the island” was very good. But at daylight, the place looked very little inviting and was completely orphaned. All right, it's only opening from 4:00. The first impression is not always the right one. When we entered the beer garden of the inn shortly before 8:00, the “Mönch” sat there and greeted the participants, who intruded one after the other (almost 20 people . With artificial light, the place no longer looked so involuntary. There was even a lively drive inside. Our “Mönch” explained to us that we will come back here at the end of the tour and invite us to a beer in the inn. I don’t want to go further on the tour at this point – except that “Honorius Hellweg” has made it very good and we have experienced a lot about the city (and this is very short and without many numbers). In numerous civic houses it was customary to bake bread even and then to soak parts of it in water and ferment to beer. In 1444, Count Gerhard from Mark to Hamm even awarded the brewers and bakers in Hamm the commercial monopoly for beer and bread. But today no beer is made here. A merchant has recently acquired the name of a traditional company and – who knows – there is a brewhouse again soon. When we entered the inn, it was still rugged. Our guide was able to take us to one of the back guest rooms that was just empty. There was an old hammer special beer. The drink was dark, slightly sweet and relatively strong. The color almost remembered an old. But I guess it's not a superb beer. Thus it looked like a black beer, but was not as sweet as some varieties. I was very well guarded and I tasted a glass. In the house there are other beers from the barrel – including Gaffel Kölsch. The guide told me that you can order good simple brewhouse dishes here too. The cook prepares regional, defensive dishes: roast potatoes, carving, grill pan and all kinds of small dishes such as curry sausage, Strammer Max and Camembert. As a guest, you get a “going list” on which the consumption is noted up to the billing. The facility just got me excited. There are beautiful decoration pieces everywhere. I noticed old tiles, lamps and vases. The table groups invite you to remain. Conclusion 4 likes again: on a beer or on a juicy dish. (1 – certainly not again, 2 – hardly again, 3 – if it results again, 4 – happy again, 5 – absolutely again – after “Kuechenreise” Date of visit: 01.04.2016 at a city tour
