Contribute Feedback What Carsten Henkel doesn't like about Se7en Oceans - Hamburg:
We have been once to the restaurant and the experience was mixed. Food was good but not great - I would expect a bit more for a 100+ EUR menu. However, what makes us not coming again was the arrogant and inattentive service. View all feedback.
We booked ahead to inform the restaurant of dairy and gluten allergies. The management (thank you Guillaume) took great care to learn about us and provide well adjusted menu options. The menu comes as a chef's menu with choices on the number of courses and...a choice on the selection of main starter which are naturally punctuated with interesting amuse-bouche. The goose liver accentuated with black cherry made a singing delight of sweet savory juxtaposition. Belly of tuna tartar was brilliant. The chicken main dish outperformed in flavour against a very modest plating, while the fish dishes were convincing on all fronts. The deserts had a creative use of spice and impressed me too. The paired wines were all very enjoyable. The service was excellent without being overbearing. The restaurant has a great view over the lake, but ultimately it is a bit quiet and without much energy to it, so simply put they'll provide great food and drink and you need to bring the party. A worthwhile culinary experience.
We only ordered corses, and there was nothing speciale about the food, like a normal restaurant in denmark
We regularly dine at Michelin Star locations star), and often travel specifically for the dining experience. We prepaid by bank transfer for Christmas Eve dinner at Oceans, eager to test their new Michelin Star. However, after hours we had received one of...the four courses, most of the restaurant had no food. The manager was rude and unhelpful, as well as disrespectful to us and other tables complaining. The restaurant was terribly understaffed for a special holiday dinner with only two wait staff for the whole restaurant. While our server was charming and doing her best, she could only work with what she was given by the restaurant mgmt, which was very little. We left and paid the drinks bill after two hours and one course, with no offer of any refund or apology from the manager. The restaurant was in the meantime trying to get us to order our second bottle of wine between two people, after hours with almost no food. Why this place has a Michelin Star is a mystery, while the first course was good, the service and location is not. I therefore cannot rate the overall food experience. Be aware the restaurant is in a mall across from a Pizza Hut, in a dining room attached to their mainstream restaurant. The dedicated elevator (shared by a gym) had a massive cracked glass door taped with caution tape, and there was no welcome on arrival we had to find our own way. I would highly recommend spending your money somewhere else and giving this place a miss.
We ate in Bistro overlooking the Alster Lake and the traffic below. We sat by the window which had a lovely view! Service was very good by the young lady that we had and the food was awesome! The pricing at the Bistro was not...out of line. You can reach this restaurant from an outside elevator that only goes the the restaurant and the gym located one floor up. Very good choice!
We ate in the Michelin Star Restaurant. The dishes are unique and tasteful. Service is good. Leave plenty of time to sit back and relax between servings.
